Old Chinese Man

Posted Oct 11, 2009, 12:25:42 AM UTC

My great grandfather took photos for the Japanese troops in China during WWII. I think they went down to southern China. This is one of the many photos he had taken, somewhere near Nanning. Well, the reference.

It's funny; the reference is one and a half inches tall. I translated it into a three foot drawing! If it was a digital photo, I would never be able to do that ;)

I've never drawn clothes like that before. I think I wanted to die. I accidentally left one part unshaded, but I'm too lazy to fix it now XD

I took a bunch of photos of it, and only two turned out well: One, where the head turned out shiny but the body came out perfectly, and one where the head came out perfectly and the body shiny. So I chose this one, since the main focus is the body. I just wish I had a good camera where I could turn off the auto-flash.
