I like how she has more rustic reds than firey colors, I always imagines phoenixes only being flame-like when using their magic, but that might just be me.

I don't think I was imagining her as quite a firebird level of continuous flaming, but... had some idea she might be able to flare her magic in self-defense or for mating display even when it's not time for a rebirth burning?

That would be fitting, flame catches the eye strongly, so why not use it for display?

      Precisely! ^_^
...Suddenly picturing fantasy zoologists trying to get in close enough to observe the mating dance without getting singed. :p

          *laugh* Oh yeah. ^_^
...I imagine photographing them has gotten a lot easier since the rise of digital cameras - all of that rapid movement and sudden bursts of light - can you imagine the effort that would go into getting a good shot of them the old-fashioned way! And also thinking - if there was an American subspecies - Audobon did a mixture of life studies and posing dead ones to get his detail work. Would he have ever been able to successfully take a phoenix, or just - give up in frustration after a week of near-burns?

Digital photography has made capturing such things easier for sure! Though I'd imagine Audobon would have to give up, phoenixes tend to turn into a pile of ash in death.

              Heh. Point.
His notebooks would just contain a number of frustrated life-studies and rambling comments about wondering how closely they were related to the ones in Egypt.
