Brief biography:

Jake had always existed in the shadow of someone he never was. Though he had a very positive relationship with his little sister Daniela and single mother Mariela, he had little in common with his beloved mamá. Mariela had always wanted a girl she could do "girl things" with, and despite his efforts, Jake could never be that girl.

Instead, he connected with her through a shared passion for her literary works. Particularly captivated by his mother's hardboiled detective novels, he dreamed of emulating its hero, helping the people law enforcement would turn its back on.

His passion for writing was far less pronounced. Jake endeavored to create in hopes of making his mother proud, but what he could make was mediocre at best. He struggled admitting it to himself, but he knew he didn't have the heart for such a career, and he didn't want to entrap himself forever riding his mamá's coattails.

Before he could discover a direction for himself, Jake's life was suddenly turned upside down when he and his family were hurtled into a written world penned by one individual. Separated and "rewritten" into a different "character", he was erased from the lives of Daniela and Mariela, and forced to act in ways entirely at odds with his personality.

The efforts of a mysterious girl named Lavenza eventually released him from the obligations of his assigned character. Striking up a friendship, the two vowed to uncover the mystery of how the written world was influenced by its sinister writer, and find a way to free it and its denziens from their tyrannical clutches.

TL;DR: The (unknowingly) transgender son of a famous writer has a happy life with his mother and sister, in spite of the dysphoria he experiences without realizing it.

He connects with his mother through his love for her detective novels, but is separated from his family after they're all thrown into a written world.

Erased from their lives and "rewritten" into a different "character" by the written world's author, Jake is forced to act in ways adhering to his new "character".

A girl named Lavenza later helps free him from this "hold", befriending him in the process. Together, the two now work together to free the written world and its inhabitants from its writer's control.

Description: Although a painfully average 5'10" with an equally ordinary build for a young adult man, the first thing one tends to notice about Jake is his rather peculiar coloration, a product of having been "rewritten" by the written world's author. Every part of his physical body is some shade of blue—from the bright teal of his skin, to the navy shade of his hair, and even the pale robin's egg blue of his sclera.

Accompanying the unnatural hue is a strange line paper texture. Though the touch of his hand has the feel of flesh, it produces the peculiar tactile sensation of touching a mix of it and paper. This is the same for his hair and other parts of his body, though it appears to be a purely "cognitive" phenomenon, with his physical form as resilient as any other person's skin, muscle, or bones.

Jake's eyes are dark, yet kind—a warm, tired black with a distinct softness to them. He is commonly seen with bags under them due to the immense stress he had experienced when his actions were controlled by another. Alongside the premature streaks of grey in his hair, he is often mistaken for being far older than he is (much to his chagrin).

He has a large, hooked nose, occasionally described as beak-like by others, and often leading to a variety of bird-themed nicknames from friends and foes alike (Jay-Jay, Blue Bird, Birdbrain... and an alias he is commonly known by in the written world, "Detective Blue Jay").

Jake's tastes in clothing are plain and practical. He gravitates toward neutral colors and is frequently seen in a brown two piece suit. When he chooses an accessory, it's often a simple solid color necktie.
