  Background story (universal):  

Illiric grew up in a safe, comfortable environment of a noble family, oblivious of the methods his parents use to maintain their wealth. They specialize in trading goods, having control over most merchants inside the city walls and beyond to obtain their goods for trade. These wares are safely secured within their well guarded storage houses. Any person who happen to get "too" close to their storages would get punished severely once spotted. Most ending up crippled or even facing death for the disrespect of thievery that may not even have been committed. This was only been the beginning of their bad reputation.

His family's workers also smuggle children and young adults to keep them as their life stock for their undercover vampiric citizens, and would frequently turn them into spawns for eternal enslavement them. After all, the younger their blood is, the purer and rich in nutrition it is.

It was only a matter of time before the Winterpath family has obtained their terrible reputation by a minor selection of the city, with the majority of citizens unaware of their secret trading. And why bother with rumors that may be false? If one obtains the food and wares necessary to survival, then all is good - they believe.

To ensure a stable future for the Winterpath family, they formed a bond with another noble family, that are responsible for all the warehouses of the nearing lands, to ensure that Winterpath's goods cannot be denied. This would secure the future of the family's wealth. For this to be set in stone, a marriage is arranged between the oldest child of both their families. Illiric, who experiences no attraction for the fine lady of the other family refused the offer his parents had made to him. And worst about it is that they learned of his exclusive attraction toward those of the same sex. Marked as a disgrace to the family, Illiric has been casted out for the refusal of the marriage. 

In his place, Illiric's younger brother, who did cooperate, married the lady and the contract was signed while the disgrace was thrown out of the safe gardens. Illiric was given a little to survive out in the streets, neither was he trained to live out on the streets. He didn't know where to turn or head to.

When he traveled the streets, the angry citizens found him, realizing that he is the son of the lady they hated so much, and they began to chase him through the city. They tortured the young man, stripped him from his valuables and security until he had nothing left but fear.

A group of underground priests found the starving boy at the cold streets and took him in to feed him. They were the first to bat him an eye as neutral force within the city, regardless of their knowledge of the noble family's deeds. These people taught him not to fear death, but to think of it as a work of art and freedom for when it will come.

As the only ones to provide him any hope, Illiric joined their beliefs and was granted just the bare minimum to survive. He worked a little to obtain just enough to buy equipment, using his status to get a discount or an exchange of erotic nature, only to escape the wrath of the citizens and to travel away.
