When asked for her name, her eyes fell upon a shine, a pure black gem that reminded her of the very thing she hid from the peering world. Wanting to show more of herself while still hiding, she states her name is Gem. The Old merchant smiles "Jane! Welcome to our village!" or Jenna, Jen, or Gem. She has a multitude of names, mainly going by Jane.

 

She appears human, doesn't she? But originally, as an Argentavis,  Dane, a knight, who was once known to be a great hunter in his younger/riskless days, sought her out to add her head to his collection. Years pass, and as his black hair begins to gray and his body begins to age, Dane settles his sword in its sheath and retires as a hunter, choosing to spend his time as a knight protector to his village. 

 

But one day 

 

this great white with yellow-tipped wings Argentavis disappears.

 

Unbeknownst to the village nearby, a local wizard, old and about to die, used the last of her magic to turn her human. In turn, she gained his knowledge, so that she was not oblivious to the world around her. She wanders the forest till stumbling across town.

 

The moment she enters, she knows  to claim she has slain the bird, catching the interest of Dane.

 

Struggling to find her place in a seemingly new world, with no memories of her own, not even the wizard's life to fall back on. She relies on the random knowledge of things the Wizard once knew, and with that and the help of Dane, she has knighted a protector.

 

Intrigued by her and that she somehow slain the very beast he never could, he took training her as a way to get closer, trying to get more intel, though Dane didn't quite believe her,  there was definitely more to the story since the bird was indeed gone. Perhaps she had seen someone else slain the bird and claimed the credit, but upon his travels and talking to the locals in various villages, he finds that they also found the disappearance of the bird mysterious, still finding no one who claims to kill the creature, not even through the grapevine of future major cities where surly someone put a bounty up.

Not even the drunks dare speak such a fable, save for a few drunks obviously lying out their yellowed gapped teeth. The whole ordeal just further complexes Dane, but as he and Jen begins to grow closer, he starts to care less and less, yet still, it lingers in the back of his mind, wondering what happened to the beast who took his left eye.

 

No matter how close the two become, they never pursue a Romantic relationship for Jane felt it wasn’t right for her to do so while hiding what she really was: a monster as the village folk called her. Or her old self she should say, but some nights, and even some days, she stills feels like the feathered beast she once was. Haunted by the red-stained memories. The ones that involve children, just playing too deep within the forest always hurt the worst, dampening the cloth she used to cover her eyes. She chooses not to look at them, the siblings and friends of the children she's slaughtered, she can still hear their screams within their laughter.

 

There are memories, a lot of memories of poachers. Sure, she was fair game, but they didn't care for the safety of the village. Their dull eyes only shined with the thought of riches that her head would put on her plate. She doesn't feel bad for those memories, and even finds a bit of delight in their red paint, still staining the ground deep within the forest.

 

Despite all this, she is still an excellent knight, even surpassing the expectations of those around her, using the knowledge of the foe who blissed and/ cursed her with it to good use. But this raises the already high suspicions on her back, so she numbs it a bit, playing nieve here and there, even inappropriately at times.

 

 

But she is not all human. As a knight, one can find themselves in unsavory situations. Ones that would usually end most people dead, plus some. But In secret, hidden away where not one can see, and only in these cases she reveals her talons and feathers, turning back into the bird at will, turning the situation in her favor.

 

This of course causes rumors to sprout.

"I swear I heard the old thing screech!"

 

"I found one of its feathers on the ground!"

Some believe, some do not. Dane is once again left even more complexed.

 

But this calls for subtlety, aiming for just turning her hands in talons, and sprouting wings from her back when needed. Very rarely she finds she needs to use the whole bird, but she was never the best chef.

 

She doesn't want to know what would happen if she were to be found out.

Standing at 5'2 in human form, Jane is half-Filipino.

Her eyes are pitch black, I only add the white dot as a stylistic choice, you do not have to include it if you do not wish.

 

Her hair is brown and cut shag-like. She liked how her hair was messy when she first appeared as a human, to emulate that effect without having to style her hair or receive any judgment from her peers, she chooses to cut her hair shaggy as it bonuses as a low-effort hairstyle.

 

Her battles as the Argentavis translate into her body. Toned but not too musical to remain agile, she also dons scars all over her body, many coming from poachers, Dane, and fights from other various animals deep within the forest, for she is not the only one. Among the scars are two large scars on each back blade from when her wings first sprung from her body.

 

Jane is also bisexual.
