Chapter 6: Hearts and Hooves

Dear Diary

These past couple of months have been emotionally draining. I thought I was going to lose my best friend. And then I was worried we were going to have a changeling war. I volunteered to go back to Ponyville and watch the changelings here. It sounds heroic that I was willing to defend my home, or maybe cowardly that I didn’t stay on the front lines. I won’t lie, I just wanted to be there to save Soft Glow if some creature went after her.

It’s behind us now. Princess Dawn Bringer managed to talk Queen Vespa down and now we can visit her hive if we want. I’ve felt like sludge that I hardly noticed Hearts and Hooves Day was around the corner. I’m usually single during the holiday, and this year wasn’t much of an exception. It used to bother me when I was a younger filly, but I’ve grown to learn that Hearts and Hooves is about all kinds of love.

I invited friends over that I knew weren’t going to be spending it with their special somepony for a little friend day hang-out party. And I quickly came to regret telling Soft Glow about how I may be kinda sorta having a teeny tiny crush on Gold Standard. She kept staring at him, me, and him and me together with this… look on her face. I wish I could even get into describing it.

I think she was expecting me to tell him I liked him in that way. Like I would tell him in front of other creatures so he would feel obligated to say he liked me back or be vilified by my friends. Yeah, I’ll tell him…. Eventually…. Just privately.

We played some party games and had some snacks and drinks. Generic small get-together stuff. One of the newer friends I made came over, Mercy. During the party, we all learned that she’s super competitive at cup stacking. We ended up having a silly tournament where we competed against them. The closest any creature got to dethroning them was Summer Solo. Even when he used his magic, Mercy beat him by at least three seconds. It’s crazy how fast she can go.

Circling back to Gold Standard, he recently got himself a pet snake. For some reason, I thought he already had a snake. I guess he just comes off as the type. He named her Princess Banana Pudding. I know, it’s adorable.

Maybe she’ll get along with Araneus. It’s been warming up and each day, Ara gets a little faster. I think it likes these little flutterfly things- I don’t know what they’re called but they look like this:

<there is a somewhat crude drawing of a butterfly with heart-shaped wings. The hearts are very lopsided and look more like buttcheeks>

I think flutterfly is a good name for them for the time being. Araneus watches them and will occasionally grab one out of the air to eat. Ponies look a little distraught if they see it eating one of the flutterflies. Even more so when they see a bat pony or changeling snack on one. Ponies really like these bugs. Except for Mint Chip, but I don’t think that’s surprising any creature.
