Chapter 3: The storm
Holding my arms over my head for a long time repeatedly has given me a little extra arm strength but I still end up with them aching horribly. It's even harder when a heavy storm is battering me for every direction, I don't need to have my arms up like this but doing so allows me to amp up the brightness of my fire.
"Magna!" Someone yells over the howling wind " We need to talk! "
Shaking my head, I wave my older brother away but I jumped slightly when his hand came down on my shoulder.
"Now, not later, now," He growls in my ear and I look at him with an eye and not moving my head "the others are plotting to kill you sometime soon, as in any minute soon! You need to leave before they get here, they have an aquamancer, your counter element!"
"Fire and water are the only elements that are weak to the other," I say, glad at how I naturally have the voice of a sailor as it didn't take much effort to get him to hear me "Water extinguishes fire, but if the fire is hot enough, the water evaporates and does nothing. You're uncomfortably hot and my fire is still a good distance away from us, the heavy rainfall is evaporating."
"If you fight back," He says, grabbing my snout and making me look him dead in the eyes "then you're giving them the opportunity to claim that you are evil and out for blood! LEAVE!"
With that, he shoved a transporter into my hand and yanks me to my feet. He's one of the few who are taller than I am, the only one who's stronger than me, and he is the one who runs my-our-hometown. His job is to keep everyone as safe as possible and from the look he was giving me, me leaving is the only way to keep me safe. Tightening my jaw, I straighten fully and give him a nod.
"I'm so sorry," He says as he embraces me before stabing me in the side with a shortsword and activating the transporter "I wish this wasn't how we part but my job demands me to do this."
Realizing that he was being watched by the very people he had warned me about, I played my part by making it look like I was surprised and I didn't resist when he shoved me through the portal made by the transporter. Landing on my back with the sword still stuck in my side, I cried. Not from the pain-although it was great-but from the fact that I never got the chance to say goodbye to Opal. Out of every family member, I was the one she was attached to the most, and me to her.
