Chapter 1: Zodina in Faedin, World of the Mushroom Forest

A warm light enveloped me Zodina LeFay a ferret-like creature with the wings of an owl and then I was alone.

"Kashi? Tim? where are you? Hello this is not funny! Kashi, Tim please answer me I don't know where I am."

but no answer from her childhood friend and the cat yokai who adopted her after a memory loss.

"Show yourselves! Where are you? I'm .... I'm ..... Alone?"

I wanted to cry in despair but I can't, there has to be a way and then I realised how strangely colourful the forest is, the trees and plants have shades of pink, purple and orange which is very unusual but also very interesting.

"What in the balance of worlds is going on here? This forest defies everything I know and at the same time it feels as familiar as my own body?"

I said to myself.

While still exploring the strange new environment, my attention was drawn to a kind of luminous snow that appeared in pastel colours of all kinds.

"Snow how strange it's too warm for this?"

I looked around and it is unbelievable the snowflakes are spores coming out of the mushrooms on the trees, they glow in the dark thicket and dance in the light wind, it is so beautiful that no mortal will ever find words to describe it.
I can't and won't take my eyes off until this beautiful spectacle is over but I still ask myself inside:
"where am I? how did I end up here? and more importantly, can I somehow get home?"

Over watching the spores, night has fallen and the mushrooms are still releasing more spores they are now the only source of light and it is like swimming in a river of glowing algae or plankton only it is dry and much more colourful.
My still childish playful personality made me decide that I should fly through these clouds of spores and have some fun.
I never thought at any time that the spores could be harmful because they are just so breathtakingly beautiful even too beautiful to be dangerous.
My flying wind that I create allows me to draw patterns and shapes in the clouds of glowing spores, swirls and more, so much fun I haven't had in a long time and it won't end anytime soon as my fur has also absorbed some of the spores and I am glowing like a fir tree at Christmas. I feel so elegant and beautiful.

The next morning dawns and I am hungry so I look for a lake and am fascinated that there is a waterfall. I don't know about the fish that swim in the water but they eat the spores that have fallen on the water so they can't be poisonous, right? ..... Right?
With a stick and some kind of flint I made an improvised spear to catch a fish but it was harder than expected but after two dozen tries I finally got a big one because I didn't want to start a fire in the spore clouds and I didn't have to cook it so I just ate the fish. It wasn't good it wasn't bad the taste was just unusual.

Around noon a malaise starts a dizziness and a burning in my lungs I start to feel sick and the spores still hang like a carpet in the air.

"Damn they are poisonous or at least not good for me".

I run as fast as I can through the waterfall to wash the spores out of my fur which fortunately doesn't take that long but my fur is now wet and so are my wings but the cave behind the waterfall offers me shelter for now and I need it for sure because I have to cast spells again after a long time.

I place a sunflower seed in a mound of earth and water it with one of my tears.
to start this long lasting spell in the best possible way. Magical symbols runes of witchcraft appear on the paw I stretch out to mound to focus energies of nature, mother earth and flora smells of exotic herbs and flowers fill the cave and concentrate into a single drop of pure life energy that changes the seed in the mound and makes it grow to its full potential. A blossom with the colours of a rainbow, unidentifiable to any plant, flourishes in the ceremony 4 hours ago its beauty is comparable to the brilliance of diamonds in a tiara the scent of the blossom transports anyone who smells it to all lands that exist and beyond, it is an image for gods.

And I now have the honour of making tea from this blossom, so I use my magic power to make a cauldron out of a stone. I fetch water from the waterfall and as there are hardly any spores here I can make a fire in the cave with stones, leaves and other things that have drifted in here.
The tea cures me of the malaise caused by stupidity, possibly of poisoning, but not of the pain in my lungs, which will go away after a while, I just have to cough up everything, which should be easier now.

I get as close to the waterfall from the inside as I can and breathe deeply to provoke a cough to get rid of the spores in my lungs and am overjoyed that I belong to such a robust people. The waterfall makes the glowing spores look even more interesting but now I know to look at them only from a safe distance.

"yawn ...... I must have fallen asleep! What should I best do now?"

*stomach growls*

"I should eat something. Fish? No it eats the spores and then I might get sick again.
look for small animals like rats? Hmmm better not they might snack on the mushrooms too. I guess I won't have much left then."

I write the rune Life on one of the larger rocks in this cave with magic to create a golem and give him the order to harvest seaweed and while he gets me the stuff I let rice and cucumbers flourish in the cave to prepare Kappa Sushi even though it is not my first choice it satisfies the hunger and is not too tasty. The only problem is that my golem won't come back, but that's obvious, he's made of stone and can't get up the steep slope, so it's just fried onigiri with cucumber and I release the spell on the golem so that he's now a stone again.
Now we have to wait until the spores have evaporated.
