Chapter 1: A battle for the ages...or just for one moment

Hey guys! Please tell me if I have any spelling errors!

---

Ferris was wandering through the forest like he normally did whenever he was looking for food to steal. It had become a regular occurence by now. He often went searching for lost travelers or hikers, which there were quite a few of. His forest was right inbetween two towns that often traded goods with each other, so it wasn't uncommon to see people wandering the lush forest he called home. And he found city life too noisy, so he just stayed in his little home in the woods. And besides, he had eight sisters to take care of, and he's pretty sure no one else will.

Ferris did his normal routine; climbing into trees to get a better view of his surroundings. The birds eye view was great for spotting things he wouldn't normally be able to see. Although, this time, he regretted his choice. As he climbed further up the tree, he heard a faint rustling sound. He paused, before feeling something drip onto his face. Slime goo. His eyes widened with realization. This was the nest of a slime. But it seems it hadn't noticed him.

Ferris tried to slowly climb back down the tree as to not disturb the slime. He glanced down, seeing just how far he had scaled the tree. He wasn't too far off the ground, so it should have been easy. It should have been easy. But it was one small mishap that ruined it for him. As he was climbing down, he suddenly lost his footing. The grip he had once had on the tree seemed to disappear. A yelp escaped his mouth as he slid down the tree, before he finally stopped himself by wrapping his legs around the tree. He was only a few inches from the ground.

He let out a sigh of relief, before he let go of the tree, feeling himself fall back into the grass. He relief was soon cut short as he heard a loud rumbling sound from above him. He regrettable let his gaze drift back up, and noticed a pair of beady black eyes staring right back at him. The slime had definitely noticed him now. Ferris scrambled to feet and turned to make a run for it. But the slime was faster. It leaped from tree, landing right inbetween him and freedom. He jumped back, seeing how angry the slime was before it lunged at him.

Ferris turned on his heels and ran, trying to get out of their as fast as possible. He could hear the slime fast approaching behind him. He glanced back at the slime, seeing that it was sucking up everything in it's path. Rocks, leaves, twigs. And the more it sucked up, the bigger it got.

Eventually, he realized that the slime wasn't going to stop chasing him. Not until he got tired and stopped running out of exhaustion. He knew that he would have to do something and fast. He let out a sigh. He didn't want it to come down to this, but he need to use his element. Ferris skid to a halt, whipping around as the slime came rushing towards him. He closed his eyes and started to concentrate. He gathered the mosture in the air, forming spikes out of ice. A magical aura surrounded the spikes, glowing brighter as they grew bigger. And as the slime came closer, he shot the spikes at the slime, making it stop in it's tracks.

Ferris smiled to himself. He had defeated the slime. He let out a cheer of celebration and started to walk away...when he paused. A low gurgling noise came from behind him. He whipped his head around and his eyes widened in fear. The slime had started absorbing the ice spikes and it started to grow, until it was twice the size it was before. Ferris stared at it in shock. But he had defeated it. It shouldn't still be moving and growing.

The slime finally stopped growing and locked eyes with Ferris. He felt a chill run down his spine. And he finally snapped out of it when the slime let out a roar and started to lunge at him again. Ferris wasn't sure what to do. He felt time slow down. He knew that the slime would surely get him now. He held out his arms in self defence, palms open, closed his eyes, and awaited for the moment he was swallowed by the slime...but it never came.

He opened one of his eyes, and noticed that the slime had stopped moving. Or rather, he had made the slime stop moving. That familiar magical aura surrounded the slime and he realized that he had used his magic by instinct. But how? The it finally clicked to him. Slime's are mostly liquid. He smirked before slowly bringing his hands together, compressing the slime until it was nothing more than a tiny ball of slime. Then, he made it freeze over, effectly stopping the slime altogether. And just for good measure, he smashed the ice ball of slime onto the ground, where it shattered into a million pieces.

Ferris finally leaned against a tree, where he was able to catch his breathe. Fighting a slime was hard. Fight with magic was even hard just purely from how much enegy it took out of him. He decided he could find food later. Right now, he just needed to get home, and hope that he didn't have anymore encounters with slime.
