Chapter 1: Talisman story

Holding the beautiful silvery hairpin in her hands as her hair completely falls down ungracefully, FengMian gazes at it longingly. It's been a some years since she's last seen her family, the hairpin is the only thing of what remains of her family as of now. It is a beautiful hairpin, her father made it for her, it was formed with the moonlight's glow and a precious pearl found from deep within the ocean. A beautiful glimmering hairpin that was crafted by FengMian's father. It was one of the most beautiful things she laid her eyes upon, but she never really did appreciate it's full beauty the first time she ever saw it.
FengMian would always use to beg her father to let her see it when she was younger, he always told her 'not yet, when you're older'. When he tells this to her, she would always pout and give him her best pleading eyes, but of course he never budged. She had wanted to grow older so she could receive her gift much faster. It was such a silly dream given what happened on that accursed day.

People feared fox spirits but they also revered them. FengMian's family were discovered and they were attacked by excorcists. FengMian's father and mother as well as her two elder siblings Her father, eldest sister, her eldest brother, second eldest sister were the only ones not at home during the attack, only FengMian's mother, second eldest brother, FengMian, and her younger brother. The excorcists were very . . . Very skilled and FengMian's mother gave her the hairpin and had Fengmian take her younger brother and escape.
Although she successfully  took her younger brother out there, he didn't make it. Now she only had her hairpin left, nothing else. Her family was nowhere to be found, she doesn't even know if they know that she's alive, she couldn't go back home not with the excorcists likely to be sticking around, nor could she search for her remaining family if they're even still out there. Originally she was supposed to receive the hairpin for when she came of age, but everything just spiraled down so suddenly and she soon found herself alone. It was very lonely being alone, it had been unexpected and it pained her every time she thought about it.
FengMian gripped the hairpin tightly as she thought back to the past during that day and shook her head as she tied her hair back up with the hairpin carefully and gently. The hairpin is her most precious and treasured item. It is a constant reminder and a beacon of hope for her. She'll meet the rest of her family one day, one day she can see them again while wearing her hairpin and they can see the kind of person they raised. She'll survive until she can meet them again, survive for the family that she lost and the family who are still alive.
The moonlight hairpin pinned in her hair glimmers and gleams under the rays of moonlight showering down upon FengMian as she sets off on her travels once more.
