Chapter 8: Final Chapter: One More for the Road

Second Chances - Final Chapter: One More for the Roadmailto:[email protected]

The spot next to him was cold, and vacant. Vegeta didn’t come back like Goku hoped. He curled up unwillingly and pulled the bed sheets over himself. Tears ran down his cheeks. This was all his fault. He had to open his big mouth. And like always, what he said was not at all like what he thought. Maybe I should just keep my big fucking mouth shut from now on. Seems like everytime I talk, it comes out wrong. He thought as his face began to burn from the blood rush. After letting go of his pain for the moment, Goku lazily crawled out of bed with his feet dragging on the floor. If it wasn’t for the fact that he had to check up on his two sleeping boys, he would still be sulking hopelessly in bed.

There they were, his two boys, his two beautiful children, sleeping soundlessly in their matching cribs. Little Ryo, snuggling with his stuffed toy. And Shin, sprawled out on his back, with his little mouth open with one hand clutching at a little plush dragon. So peaceful and harmless. So beautiful to his eyes. Goku swallowed back his tears as he gazed at Ryo and approached his crib, only to gently rub at his little head, rousing him just a little.

"Ryo, my beautiful son. Forgive me for being so stupid. Daddy was just trying to teach you about who you are, and where you come from. I want you to know that, I want your brother to know that. I’ll never say such a horrible thing ever again. Me and Vegeta love both you and your brother so much....words cannot describe it."

"I love you so much that words cannot describe it. Kakarot."

The bigger Saiyan was surprised to hear Vegeta’s soft calling from behind him. And when Goku turned to confront the voice, sure enough, Vegeta was standing with his arms crossed in the doorway and leaning heavily on one side. "Vegeta? Did you...hear everything?" asked Goku as his lover approached him slowly. Vegeta stopped, now looking up at Goku. "Yes." said the prince simply, his hand cupping one side of Goku’s face. Goku averted his eyes away from Vegeta and on an object in the room. "I’m sorry Vegeta. Everything that happened last night was my fault." Vegeta pulled him down so he could kiss him on the lips slowly. "It doesn’t matter anymore Kakarot. But don’t try burying the truth from our children – the truth about what happened to your father, my father, and our proud brothers. Let them hear the real name of their father – this Goku identity you assume is merely a facade for your friends. But I know no Goku. I only know Kakarot – my Kakarot..."

Hearing Vegeta call him that...that name he had all but forgotten until Vegeta first entered his life all those years ago, made Goku feel all warm and tingly inside. Especially now, since he and Vegeta were now devoted lovers. Hearing that name come from his prince’s lips made him forget everything. "Oh Vegeta...I’ll always be your Kakarot. Forever. And, I promise to never judge you like I did again – I’m sorry."

They kissed there against Ryo’s crib then, when the little boy could be heard whimpering gently behind them. And in typical twin fashion, it wasn’t long before Ryo’s little brother Shin awoke, though, a little bit more groggy than his brother. Vegeta took to Shin’s crib, picked the child up and held him in his arms. Shin, fussy, began to cry. "Hey, Kakarot...hand me Shin’s stuffed dragon – he keeps pointing to it." Vegeta was immediately handed Shin’s stuffed toy, which he handed to the boy, who cuddled against it and ceased his crying.

****************

Later that morning, Goku’s son Gohan stopped by to visit with his father, half brothers, and Vegeta. Gohan seemed to grow by the day as if he were a freshly watered plant shining in the sun. In the past few days, he revealed to his father that he had grown a couple inches taller and his voice was beginning to change. And when Gohan went to hug Ryo and his brother, the twins nearly turned as white as ghosts, afraid of the stranger attempting to hug them. Goku and Vegeta just laughed, watching Gohan trying his best to coax the boys into believing that he was still their big brother.

"Kakawot!" Ryo said gleefully. "Big monkey!"

Gohan giggled, amused by Ryo’s excitement about his father’s Saiyan name. "Sorry little buddy, I’m your brother Gohan; Kakawot is your daddy."

His little brother crashed to the floor on his rump and started to clap his hands together, saying "Big monkey! Big monkey! Yay!" while yanking on his big brother’s poor little tail. This otherwise playful gesture excited a painful cry from Ryo then, who nearly tackled his little brother! Both brothers fought with one another, rolled around on the floor, bit and scratched until they had all but tuckered themselves out. Gohan, shocked by what he just witnessed, turned to face his father and Vegeta.

"Did you see that? They were fighting with each other; how come you guys didn’t stop them?" he asked worriedly.

"We saw. That’s what they do with each other Gohan; that’s one of the ways they play with each other. They’re all right, son. See?" said Goku, gesturing to his twin boys sneaking up behind Gohan, only to pounce on his shoulders. "Gohan! Gohan! Big brudder!"

Gohan gently brought both boys over his shoulders and into the warmth of his arms to give them each a big hug. "Hey you!" he chimed happily as a laugh came from his mouth. "And what have we been up to today? Hope you haven’t been giving Daddy any trouble."

The brothers, their weight put together, were able to playfully tackle their bigger brother to the carpet. Goku and Vegeta could only watch, each with one thing or another to reflect on. For Goku, seeing his sons playing with his eldest son brought back memories of when Gohan was a mere baby, and the rare occasions when Chi-Chi allowed him to feed her first born son. Or, the rare times he was able to play and bond with his own child; a tear came to Goku’s eye then, as he remembered the times they would play around for hours. Bonding between a father and a son. Another tear came to Goku’s eye, as he remembered those fun days of giving his son the pleasure of riding him as if he were a horse, or a piggy back ride on his shoulders on those mild summer nights as they returned from catching fireflies.

The moment Goku would step into the house, it was as if Gohan didn’t exist. Because after dinner and a bath, Gohan would sit in his room, studying, and studying, and studying, until it was his bedtime. And even then, as Goku tried reading Gohan his favorite bedtime story, Chi-Chi would not have it, and forced Goku to leave, and Gohan to sleep without having heard his favorite bedtime story.

For Vegeta, seeing his boys playing made him feel regret. Regret, for all those times, those moments, he could have shared with his first son, Trunks when he was first born. Instead, and at that time, he focused only on bettering himself for the threat that would arrive in 3 years. But that was one thing he didn’t regret. He was always out to better himself, but now that he had clearly changed, he wished he could go back to when Trunks was first born, and do everything over.

And for both Goku and Vegeta, while they couldn’t change the past, they could certainly live in the present, and look forward to a clearly bright future ahead of them.

***********

That afternoon, Goku informed his eldest son that he and Vegeta would be leaving later that night and would be gone for the weekend and, knowing how much Ryo and Shin meant to him, asked Gohan if he’d like to babysit for the weekend. The teenager readily agreed, vowing to take good care of the boys while their parents were gone. And after everything that happened recently, a weekend getaway was just the thing Goku and his lover needed. And with Gohan taking care of their boys, they would be able to fully enjoy themselves and their time alone, knowing Ryo and Shin were in such great hands.

The afternoon sun was at its highest in the sky, and just warm enough to be comfortable; a light, cool breeze would come and go at regular intervals to provide even more comfort. Young Gohan had taken Ryo and Shin to the local city park, but not before hearing his father tell him to be "absolutely careful" with his two angels. Vegeta, however, was a bit more direct and fierce with his advice. Gohan left soon afterward, with both brothers in tow.

Goku stood in the kitchen, staring out the window and just gazing at the calm world before him. So caught up in the beauty of the land, he nearly forgot why he was in the kitchen in the first place. When he came to, the Saiyan looked down and noticed he had not yet sliced his red apple in half. A smile curved his lips then, as he sliced the apple in half and proceeded to pick the seeds from the middle of it. He took a bite then, his taste buds awash with the juicy, crisp goodness of the fruit. With his eyes closed, Goku leaned back against the kitchen counter, and enjoyed himself.

 "Ahem. Kakarot. Kakarot...? KAKAROT!!"

Like nails on a chalk board, Goku’s ears nearly bled at the sound of his love’s rough, deep screaming of his name. His mouth full, Goku just gawked at his lover, while trying to chew his food.

Finally able to swallow, Goku addressed Vegeta. "What’s up?"

"Come here," beckoned the smaller Saiyan with his finger and a gleam in his eye.

Goku walked to his cunning lover. As he gazed down at him, he immediately recognized that gleam in Vegeta’s eye. Goku himself smirked, knowing exactly what was to come. He brought his hands down to Vegeta’s shoulders and stooped down to kiss him when Vegeta took it upon himself to jump up and lace his strong legs around Goku’s waist. The bigger Saiyan glanced at Vegeta, now looking at him face to face. "You seem eager..."

Without warning, Vegeta claimed Goku’s lips and kissed him rather aggressively, but with as much spirit as he was known for. The Saiyan lovers proceeded to dance then. An exhibition of mouths, jaws and tongues moving together with fervor and in total unison. Their mouths moved slower, the kiss intensifying with every movement. Finally, they were able to separate and catch their breath, and their hearts from flying away and into euphoria.

"Come on Kakarot, we still have some time; think you can handle this?" said Vegeta, gloating over himself and his seemingly perfect body and the fact that he was rather passionate in the bedroom.

Goku laughed then snorted. "Gee, I don’t know; why don’t we go find out?"

**************

Garments of clothing were scattered everywhere. Jeans, socks, underwear and the like hung from the bed post, the doorknob, and in just piles around the floor. The covers were messed and falling off the bed. And in the middle of the chaos was the tornado of passion, and caught up in its ravaging winds and destruction were both Vegeta and his lover Goku, naked and sweating; Goku lay beneath his prince with his legs crunched towards his heaving chest, already too far gone to even try to recapture his sanity. His eyes blurred the colors of the room together as he desperately tried to refocus, and look Vegeta in the eyes.

"Ve...Vegeta...fuck me, come in me...I need...you."

"I...will, Kakarot. I want you...just as much as I need you."

The Saiyan Prince pushed himself forward and into Goku’s warm and pulsing canal, a place where no one but he had been. His hands fell to either side of Goku; Goku’s allowed his legs to fall to Vegeta’s shoulders as the Saiyan continued to thrust into him with ferocity. Goku screamed, torn between pleasure and pain, but knowing very well that Saiyans took everything with a fighting, competitive spirit. Even their love making knew no mercy. Which made it all the more beautiful to them.

Kakarot...you look so beautiful...so eager....You are a Saiyan – my Saiyan. I love you.

And with one more fierce push into Goku, Vegeta successfully threw Goku off his tiny ledge of sanity, and watched him fall into euphoric nothingness. Goku would not be going alone however, and took Vegeta down with him. Together, they fell into what seemed like an endless free fall, the rush of their climax blurring the lines between realism and fantasy, until coming to an abrupt halt where they lay with limbs entwined and hearts beating as one.

"I love you..." they announced breathlessly together, before the last flame of their love making was no more.

*****************

Some say that you can only be blessed once in your lifetime. Not me. Even though I’m still young by Saiyan standards, I’ve been fortunate to have been blessed a thousand times over. My friends, especially Krillin, are a blessing. My wonderful family, my Gohan and my Vegeta, and our two beautiful children, the next generation of protectors of this planet Earth, are the biggest blessing of all. Even though legend claims that the Dragonballs can give you anything in the entire world, even immortality, they cannot give what I have received in my lifetime thus far. Even Chi-Chi, bless her heart. She will always be the mother of my eldest son, but I hope and pray that the blindfold around her eyes will burn away from the light known as reality sometime...someday.

As I write these last words, I can feel an energy approaching, a new beginning of sorts. It’s calm and pure of heart, soothing. This aura...known as a second chance at what was hidden from me. I will see to it that Ryo and Shin will grow up to be happy, healthy and strong warriors...like that of their Saiyan brothers of long ago.

I will make you proud, my brothers. I will.
