Chapter 1: Chapter 1

The full moon rose high above the forest treetops. The night air was crisp and cool, showing signs of winter approaching soon.
The young woman that ran through the woods fell by a tall oak tree, panting in terror.
'Maybe I lost him...' she thought, frantically looking around. Her blonde hair clung to her face from the sweat beading on her forehead. Her shirt was soaked in blood from a horrible stomach wound.
Without warning, her attacker jumped down in front of her, his eyes glowing red as she let out a horrifying scream.

****************************

Annabelle Simms awoke with a start, sitting up in her bed. Breathing heavily, she turned to her left to see what had woke her. There stood a young blond haired woman with a soft glow about her.
"Help me..." She whispered causing Annabelle to gasp in shock.
After blinking her eyes a few times, the young woman had disappeared.
She looked over to her bedside table at the clock.
6:00 AM. The sun hadn't even begun to peek out over the clouds yet.
She tossed her covers aside knowing that she'd be up for the remainder of the day.

The young blond that appeared to her stuck in her mind.

Annabelle knew she was a ghost... this wasn't the first time something like this had happened. She had helped solve quite a few cases before. I guess you could call her a medium.
When she walked into the kitchen to make coffee, she found her sister already awake.
Tara is twenty-eight years old, two years older than Annabelle.
"What are you doing up so early?" Annabelle asked, starting the coffee pot.
"Couldn't sleep. You?" Tara responded, not bothering to look up from her newspaper.

"Had a nightmare... met someone... You know, typical night for me." Annabelle said with a sigh, taking a seat next to her sister.

"So where do we go then?" Tara asked with her eyebrows raised, finally looking up from the paper.
"I don't actually know yet..." Annabelle said, switching on the small kitchen thirteen inch TV.

They remained silent as they watched the news for some clues.
The girls are paranormal investigators... following in their parents' footsteps. Their parents were killed five years ago by some unknown source, however, and now they're on a quest to find out- solving other paranormal crimes along the way.
Annabelle is petite, short, red-haired and green-eyed while Tara is tall, muscular, brunette and brown-eyed. It was hard to tell that they were biological sisters.

"And in other news, Cassie Harding of Marshall was reported missing, and has been missing for three days... If you have seen her or know any information on her disappearance, please call the number below." The newscaster said solemnly as a picture and phone number flashed across the screen of the missing girl.

"Thats her, Tara." Annabelle said, pointing to the screen.
"Well, then... I guess that's where we're going." Tara said with a smile, getting up from the table and turning off the TV before walking out of the room to pack.

******************************

"You reported Cassie missing when?" Annabelle was asking Dirk, the missing girl's boyfriend.
"Last night when I realized I hadn't heard from her in two days. We only get to see each other once a week because of our busy schedules but her parents told me they hadn't seen her, nor had she been coming into work." He said, obviously not wanting to talk much.
"Who did you say you were again?" He asked, looking up at them with a frown.

"FBI." Tara lied, flashing her fake I.D.
"Did she ever mention anything unusual?" Annabelle asked, continuing with the questions.
"Actually, yeah... but I don't want you to think she's crazy." He said, a bit hesitant to the girls.
"Try me." She responded with a kind smile.

"Cassie was constantly rambling on about some sort of war. Not your usual war, though. It's something to do with demons. At first I didn't believe her..." He started, hanging his head down.
"But she showed you something that proved her words true?" Tara asked, cutting in.

"Yeah. A sword that she said belonged to an Annabelle Simms. It's a special weapon that was made a thousand years ago. It was made to kill anything." He said. Annabelle released a slight gasp and turned to Tara in surprise.
"And why Annabelle Simms? How did Cassie know her?" Tara asked curiously.
"She didn't know her. The sword's been passed down in her family for centuries. How they know about Annabelle, that I don't know. You'd have to talk to her parents about that." He explained looking at the girls suspiciously. He had no idea that the Annabelle he was talking about was standing right in front of him.

"Thank you for your help, Dirk. We'll keep in contact." Tara finished, taking Annabelle by the arm and leading her back to their old green jeep wrangler.

"What the hell is going on? Why am I involved in this?" Annabelle started asking.

"That's what we're going to try and find out..." Tara said in determination.

***************************

"You're Annabelle aren't you?" Karen Harding, Cassie's mother, asked when opening the door.
"Yes, how did you know?" Annabelle asked in shock.
"Come in and sit down girls." She said, holding the door open.

"Your family is quite famous." She began, taking a seat across from the girls after pouring them some tea.
"What exactly is going on here?" Tara asked, a bit impatient.

"Demons and vampires are in the process of trying to take over the world. They've been attempting to for hundreds of years, but unfortunately for them, someone in each generation of your family would stop them. The last time they tried was five years ago...." Karen said, staring at Annabelle the whole time.

Tara turned to Annabelle with wide eyes.
"That was our parents' last case." She whispered.
"Yeah, but your father is still alive." Karen cut in. The girls turned back to face her in shock.

"I'm sorry to have to tell you like this but it's true. He came by yesterday before leaving town... said that if I was to have the pleasure of meeting you, to tell you that he'll be contacting you soon." She added when there was no response from Tara and Annabelle.

"And the sword?" Annabelle asked.
"It's yours." Karen said, reaching to the table beside her and picking up a beautiful silver sword with an emerald encrusted hilt.
"If this is really a thousand years old, how did your family know about me before I was even born?" Annabelle asked.
"It was to be given to the Simms member that carried the special power. You're the first and only member that does. It's been clear since you were born that you would receive this sword." Karen said with a smile.

"How do I find these demons?" Annabelle asked, taking the sword in her hand looking it over in awe.

"You don't find them... they'll find you. You'll have to be prepared." She said.

The girls nodded and stood up to leave. They were to have a big adventure ahead of them soon......
