Lightning Bugs: Lightning Bugs

Where have they gone?

I look to the sky.

Up in the darkness

My lightning bugs fly.

They swirl up and around-

Higher and higher.

Their swift little bodies

Never do tire.

They rise to the stars;

They leave me behind.

Frightening thoughts

Run through my mind.

"How will I make it

Without them all here?"

Every bone in my body

Crumbles with fear.

Dead where I stand

And wishing to fly,

I'm wasting away

Without knowing why.
