Chapter 1: Truth and Lies
Society thrives on lies
Small lies, white lies, cruel lies, painful lies
For a country cannot thrive on truth.
Sometimes the lies are necessary
The simple questions, “Does this make me look fat?”
“Does my hair look terrible?”
“How was my writing?”
Cannot be answered with the truth
For to answer honestly would be to seem cruel
And so a lie is told.
“No, it doesn’t,” you claim
But does your lie help?
You spare the other’s feelings
But others may not be as merciful as you.
So maybe…
In the end
It is better to tell the truth
Than to give a lie.
