Chapter 2: Breakfast

Cho sat with her Ravenclaw friends at breakfast on Saturday, chatting amiably with the other girls. Harry watched Cho from his seat at the Gryffindor table in between Ron and Hermione, who were bickering as usual. The post had just come and several owls were still lingering near their owners in hopes of a breakfast more enticing than mice. Harry gave Hedwig the last of his toast and a bit of sausage, absently stroking her feathers. He had something else on his mind, and when his snowy owl flew out of the Great Hall, he rose without so much as a word to Ron and Hermione. Harry walked over to the Ravenclaw table, stood beside Cho and looked down at her.

She felt his presence, and looked over at him, smiling. Harry was glad that she was in one of her good moods; otherwise his plan would fall through. It was funny, when she was in a good mood she acted normally, but otherwise she got all weepy and talked about Cedric nonstop. Well, Harry would put an end to that. He wanted to be the only one she cried about. Tearing himself from his thoughts, Harry assumed a friendly air and spoke to Cho.

            “Morning, Cho,” Harry said, grinning.

“Hi, Harry. Good to see you,” she replied brightly.

“So, um, Cho, are you busy today?”

Cho heard several giggles behind her. She looked sternly at her friends, who laughed even louder.

“No, I’m not doing anything,” she said with a smirk.

“Well I was wondering,” said Harry, ignoring Cho’s giggling minions, “if you wanted to spend some time with me.”

            “I would love to.”

“Great. I’ll meet you at the lake, how does ten o’ clock sound?”

“Fine with me. See you then!”

Harry flashed her one last smile and left the Great Hall. Cho watched him as he walked out of the room. Marietta and Padma had recovered from their gigglefits and began to interrogate Cho, while their other friends continued to act immature, shaking with silent laughter.

“So,” said Padma slyly, “what do you suppose you and Mister Potter will be doing today?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Cho replied innocently. “I suppose we could talk about Quiddich…”

“Don’t be silly,” laughed Marietta. “You know you two will be snogging for hours, under a tree, by the lake… How romantic,” she snorted.

“Oh, stop it. I just want to get to know Harry better. I like him. He seems like such a nice guy.”

“You say that now, but you won’t be calling him a ‘nice guy’ if he’s bad in the sack. He can’t have had much experience,” said Marietta contemptuously.

“Well remember, Cho hasn’t either, so it might not matter as much. Still, your first time is supposed to be special,” said Padma.

“You’re such perverts,” quipped Cho. “I’m leaving.”

“Yeah, go upstairs and get yourself ready to shag your loverboy,” Marietta laughed.

Cho’s only response to this was to smack her friend in the back of the head. She got up from the table and went to her dormitory to get ready for her date.
