Chapter 1: Child Bride of the Demon King
âStop shaking, girl or Iâll stick you with a pinâ the nurse scolded.
âWhy must I be sacrificed to the demon king?â the girl asked stubbornly. The maids glanced at each other nervously
âThatâs not a very nice thing to say!â one of them began.
âOh, save it! I know you all are scared of him, including my father. And I know heâs sending me to marry him instead of my older sisters because Iâm a bastard he had with a gypsy. The only reason he took me in is because he didnât want me raised by gypsiesâŚâ she sighed. The maids began to look uncomfortable.
ââŚI never thought he would give me as a present to the demon kingâŚâ
âStop your grousing! One castle is the same as the next!â the nurse sighed finishing the alterations on the girlâs gown.
âBut heâs a monster! Youâve all heard of what he does to his enemies! Lord knows what heâll do to me!!â she cried.
ââŚplease, my lady, Iâm sure it will be fineâŚâ
ââŚTell that to my tortured corpse!â
ââŚSuch dramaâŚâ the nurse rolled her eyes.
The young girl shook were she stood before the kingâs throne. She could feel his cold cruel eyes lingering on her.
âAnd what is this?â his voice rumbled.
âWe come from the neighboring country, your highness. Our king offers one of his daughters as tribute to your great kingdom and in the hopes that our two countries will be joined as oneâ the maid bowed. The demon king noticed a certain bitterness in the girlâs countenance at the mention of her father, this made him grin.
âHmmmâŚhow old are you child?â
ââŚTwelveâŚmy lordâŚâ she whispered.
âTwelve? Then you truly are a child. Surely you king has older, moreâŚexperienced daughters?â
ââŚMy father rather not put his beloved girls in dangerâŚâ she muttered bitterly.
âMy lady!â the old woman shushed.
âNo, go on, I wish to hear what the girl-child has to say on matters of stateâ he smirked. She glared, âI may be a child, but even as such I am still too much woman for you to handleâ
âIs that so?â he grinned. The king rose from his throne, slowly approaching the two. The girl glared at her feet, fear gripping her once more. He knelt before her, grasping her chin and forcing her to look him in the eyes.
Her own of pale green stared with surprise into his sinister red ones.
âReturn to your king, tell him I accept hisâŚgiftâ he grinned, taking the girlâs hand. âAnd what should I call you, Princess?â
ââŚMy name isâŚTayoâŚâ she stammered.
âPrincess TayoâŚNo, Queen Tayoâ He rumbled kissing her hand.
Tayo stood still before the mirror as she was dressed for the day.
âStop pouting already, if he wanted to eat you, he wouldâve done it by nowâ her maid huffed.
âHeâs waiting for you to leave so he can take advantage of meâŚâ Tayo said coldly.
âHow does a child your age become so morbid?â
There was a knock at the door.
âIs my lovely bride descent?â the kingâs low voice rumbled. Tayo hid behind her nurse.
ââŚOh for the love ofâŚYes my lord, you may come inâ
The door swung open and in stepped the demon king, lord Tepes.
âGood day, my lordâ Tayo curtsied.
âGood morning, my queenâ He took a knee to kiss her hand. ââŚYou look ravishing todayâ
He gave a dark chuckle as she paled.
âYou shouldnât tease her so much, my lord, she is quite a serious childâ the nurse sighed.
âThat is precisely why I tease her so muchâ he grinned. Tayo pouted.
âYou shouldnât do that, my dear, it makes it hard for me to control myself when I see my wife pout so cutelyâ
âIf you are such a beast that a mere child is enough to arouse your passions then I truly pity youâ She scoffed.
ââŚMmmâŚI adore feisty womenâŚâ he rumbled, his eyes glinting. Tayo seemed unnerved but threw her head with a snooty, âHmphâ, leaving the room her nurse in tow.
