Chapter 1: Saying Goodbye

“You wish to go back to your own time?” Sachiko began staring down at the headstrong girl now knelt before her throne.

“Kagome told me that the well was closed. I knew if there was some way for me to return, you’d know it” Fawks replied.

“Hmph, Sessho-maru hasn’t even been dead a week and you’re all ready to abandon his province…what a faithless Lady of the West” the demoness smirked disdainfully.

“Sorry I couldn’t live up to your noble legacy, but you didn’t have your mate die in your arms!” Fawks snapped. Sachiko raised an eyebrow, Fawks eyes pricked with tears.

“…I thought I could do this…I thought I could…move on without him. It’s what he would have wanted…but…I see him in everywhere…my heart can’t take it anymore” she wept.

“That was your first mistake…” Sachiko began, “…believing you could forget the one you loved…the one who loved you so passionately”

The female dog demon rose to her feet, beaconing Fawks to stand as well. She held out a glowing hand, “I do this only because I know that above all things, even the western province, he cared solely for your happiness”

The light flowed from her hand enveloping Fawks in it’s warmth.

A horrible beeping broke through like a dagger to her brain. Fawks growled slamming her fist down on the snooze.

“…Oh god dammit…!” she sighed.

“Fawkeisha-chan!” Miyako’s voice sounded from down the hall.

“What?!”

“School!”

“Right…I knew that! Totally knew it!” she called easing herself out of bed. Fawks sighed holding her head in her hand.  Glancing up, her eyes caught the black funeral tablet sitting in the small shrine across her room.

“…it’s okay, Sessh-kun…I’m fine…it was just a nightmare…” she smiled coming to keel in front of it. She lit a stick of incense, saying a prayer, “…I miss you…so much…”

“Fawkeisha-chan?” Miyako began opening her door.

“…Can’t you knock?” Fawks sniffed, rubbing a hand across her eyes. Miyako gave a soft smile, coming to her younger sister’s side.

“…You’ve been offering prayers to him every day for the last three years…”

“Really? Has it been that long?” Fawks said absently. “…It’s getting better, y’know…I don’t cry as much. But the nightmares still haven’t gone away…”

“You must have really loved him, it makes me sad I never got to meet this Sessho-maru” Miyako nodded.

“…You probably wouldn’t have liked him anyway…he was so sour…” Fawks laughed. An uncomfortable silence fell over the room.

“…he…asked me to marry him, Miyako…”

The older girl looked at Fawks, slightly shocked, “Marry him?!”

“Mmm…”

“And what did you say?” Miyako began.

“I told him…I’d would…that’s where I was for half a year” Fawks shrugged.

“…I see” Miyako smiled softly.

“We were so happy, Miyako! I thought we could stay like that forever…” Fawks managed a smile, her bottom lip quivered, “…But I should have known better…Maybe…I was never meant to be happy…”

“Don’t say that, Fawkeisha-chan!” Miyako began.

“Everything I ever truly loved was taken from me…some days I wonder why I keep on living…” Tears ran races down her cheeks.

“Well I’m still here…and I’m not going anywhere…” Miyako said wrapping a comforting arm around Fawks’ shoulder.

“…you promise?”

“Of course…you are my one and only little sister after all”
