Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Lain stood at the edge of a cliff, solid brown ground staring up at him. He could feel the breeze rushing around him, blowing his shirt and hair back. “If there is no equality in this world, then what right do I have being here…?” He began to step forward, shutting his eyes muttering under his breath, “Forgive me…” There was suddenly a large gust, blowing him onto his back away from the cliff. He grunted in pain, opening his eyes to see his sister looking down at him, disappointedly. “What were you doing?” He looked away, sitting back up. “I don’t belong in this world. I don’t want to live in a world where I have to sit by and watch as my friends and family are denied equality just because they fall in love with someone.” His sister frowned, walking around to stand in from him. “Are you implying gay marriage should be ok?”

He nodded, standing up to tower over her in height. “Yes! It should! Do you not see that!? What the hell does it matter if you fall in love with someone of the same sex?! Is that still not love, is that not the exact same thing you may feel for the boy you fall in love with!?” She sighed, shaking her head. “Lain you don’t understand, it’s different for them. God says it’s wrong, so why should they be able to do it? It clashes with popular belief.” Lain scowled in disgust, walking to the cliff again. “Then screw the popular belief! In fact…” Before she could react he leapt off the cliff, plummeting towards the ground head first.

As he fell, he thought to himself. “Here I come… God. If gay marriage is so wrong, I’ll just have to have a word with you, won’t I? I’m sorry… I probably shouldn’t have done this, it will scar so many… Such a selfish thing to do, but I don’t belong there. Not in a world where everyone isn’t equal. Here I come God…” The last thing Lain heard was a small voice in his hear, whispering. “I’ll save you this one time, but be warned child… You only get one, now go and live. Ignite the fire that will change the world.” He felt himself begin to fall slowly, his back hitting the ground gently then he passed out.

When Lain awoke he was staring up at the sky, the stars had come out. In the stars… He could have sworn he saw a face smiling down at him.
