Chapter 1: Making strides with human kind -Aug 2021

Korda had been enjoying the warmer summer months, when the waters grew warm and many aqrion came from the depths to celebrate. He had carefully come from his den in the depths when his brother told him of strange colorful fish on the surface playing in the waves. The duo had split up to find these strange fish, and korda had wandered close to the shallows. The white abyssal had his head level with the surface as he scanned the area, bulbs dimmed since he was in the bright light. Little did he expect to make eye contact with a strange creature.

The creature was resting on a rock in the shallows, sporting tanned skin that had brightly colored cloth over its middle. They had a fluffy black mane that was wet from the water, and green eyes that were wide with surprise. The human made a strange vocalization, before trying to scoot away from the now confused Korda. When she slipped off the rock, Korda jumped, wondering if she was okay. When he swam around the rock she was trying to climb on the rock again, but the small human kept slipping. Something told Korda he should stay away from it, but his urge to help other creatures was too strong.

The abyssal carefully placed his head under the struggling human, lifting her onto the rock. She squeaked and looked at Korda for a long moment before making a strange noise. Korda tilted his head and looked at her, accidentally exposing his burn scars from the accident as a pup. The human made a cooing noise before slowly reaching to touch the scars, Korda hesitated before allowing her. A contented huff left Korda’s snout as she gently felt the scars, being mindful of the rough skin. To Korda this was a strange, but not unwelcome meeting, but to the human, Kat, this was a once in a lifetime meeting.

After a few minutes of this Kat carefully pulled away, watching Korda as he dunked his head into the water. When he pulled his head out and shook the water at her she began to laugh, the vibrations tickling Korda’s fins. Suddenly Korda heard more of the strange language as a group of humans came over on the brightly colored fishes Zirdoss had been talking about. At first the group runs over to Kat, trying to shield her from Korda. The abyssal looks confused when a male starts yelling at him in their language, obviously irritated by him. Of course Korda starts to growl, backing up and flaring his fins. The last two members of the group pull the yelling male away, fussing at him like an annoyed matriarch. Korda watches as the group gets quiet, Katt carefully standing up to walk closer to the big sea dragon.

Korda watches as she grabs the brightly colored, flat fish that was up there with her. Kat places it into the water with him, and carefully climbs on. The guy, Ryan, calls out to her “Kat! Are you crazy?! That thing is dangerous, get away from it!” She promptly ignores him, paddling out to where Korda backed up to. The abyssal makes a strange grumbling noise, not unlike a happy doberman. The rest of the surfers watch as Korda backs up alongside Kat, swimming with his upper body beside her while the rest of him is submerged. When the pair gets some distance Kat yells to her friends “Come on! This is awesome!”

Korda’s fins perk up when the other humans join them in the water, listening to them chatter amongst themselves. After a few minutes of them talking he gently smacks the water with his fin, taking off toward the waves. To his surprise the humans followed, cheering and seeming overjoyed. He watched the little humans use their flat fish to skim the waves, diving down below them and leaping out at various points alongside them. The waves were pretty nice, so the group stayed out there for most of the day. When the sun started to get lower in the sky, the group headed for the beach, Korda staying in the deeper water. Kat hesitated, before swimming back over and putting a hand on his snout. “You better come back and visit us, you hear?” Korda made his strange grumble again and wiggled his fins before turning to dive back into the sea. He couldn’t wait to tell his brother the truth about those strange fish, and he hoped to meet up with them again.
