Story Summary

#95 Draw or write about a talisman for your character. It can be something that is sentimental, magical, or in some way meaningful to your character. It's not required, but many adventurers who journey to these different worlds keep their Portal badges on their talisman as a way to showcase all of the places they've journeyed to.

Chapter 1: Prompt #95

Dusk's talisman is one of his set of drones. This set consists of two large drones and three mini drones. Each drone is sharpened along the edges and resembles a blade. Having a simple diamond shaped core inset into the middle of the flat edge on each of them. They are silver with a pinkish purple glow emanating from the core. His two large drones are about arm length and tend to hover close to his back. Whereas his mini drones are only about as long as his hands and tend to clip onto the waist of his coat. Since his drones are all made of metal, he has taken to painting his portal badges onto the underside of one of his larger drones.

These drones have a few abilities, they are all directly connected to his robotic systems within his own body and can by extension feel things around them by collecting touch data and sending that wirelessly back to dusk. He can also use them to channel energy in order to unleash attacks. This skill has proven useful in helping him learn to connect to and use his new elemental abilities, as he can channel his fire similarly to his own natural electric energy. Another major ability of these drones is to allow some form of flight. His large drones are strong enough to hold up dusks body weight and allow him to hover for some distance. The distance and height of which depends entirely on dusks own stamina.  The larger drones also have an ability to transform their shape. Though albeit minorly. They can adjust shape to allow dusk to use one as a cane, to pry open areas if need be, or even open up to expose their core and allow for more powerful attacks.

Dusk received these drones during his time experimenting on his cyborg half in his father's labs. As he grew more desperate to escape, he started to tamper with his own electronics, building the drones himself out of spare equipment he was able to steal. Often by taking apart parts of the lab and stealing his father's other projects to incorporate into his own. They became tools to help him interact with the world around him, the drones could move around the lab without him being directly next to them. Not to mention incorporating touch sensors into them, allowing them to interact with objects he couldn't see. Though this did of course take a great deal of practice to get down. With all the time he spent working with them, they have become more like extra limbs for him than any average tool. Loosing one wouldn't just be physically painful but could also take a similar tole on him to loosing an actual limb, though he already has experience in that front admittedly. The drones themselves have a lot more years of work and rebuilding poured into them then either of his actual prosthetics. Both of which he would admit need work in the state they are right now. Whereas his drones, he feels, are near perfect for what he needs to use them in.

Now, after all his time trapped, he can still use his drones to help him move around this new environment. They helped him create a gateway to this world, and now they can help him move on from his past life. Be that as a mode of transport, self-defense or just a walking stick. These drones are more than just a talisman, they are a part of who he is physically, and he couldn't live without them.
