Miu's Misadventures: Prologue

Miu was met with a massive headache when she woke up. Groaning, she stands up, before tumbling forward. Crud, what’s going on? Why does she feel so sick? She doesn’t understand what’s going on. Miu groans and closes her eyes, deciding to just lay on the ground a little longer 

 

After a moment, she finally decides to use her paws to push herself up, but when she looks down she is met with soft blue paws. She gasps and in her sudden fit she stumbles back and onto her spine. She groans a bit, her leg twitching as she stared up at the sky now through the trees that shaded her from today’s harsh sunny skies. 

 

How did she even get into this mess? Why couldn’t she remember where she even came from. She was a human, and her name was Miu, but she couldn’t remember much after that. 

 

How did all of this weird stuff always happen to her? Miu sighs and she figures out how to stand. As she does so, she can’t help but feel like a newborn fawn trying to learn how to stand on those thin long legs they have. 

 

Miu moves one paw over the other and she manages to make her way over to a little pool of water. She peers into it and feels her throat close up at the sight of herself. 

 

She was... Some sort of arctic fox. She looked pretty, at least to her. She looked so small and soft now… was this really her new reality? Apparently, it was. 

 

Miu sighs and she rubs her paw over her face. What a mess. What’s she even able to do as a fox. At least she was a pretty fox? Does this mean she could do animal things? Now that she thinks about it, that's not that cool. She didn’t want to have to eat raw meat. But for an arctic fox, she’s certainly not in the right environment. Despite it being so hot though, she feels surprisingly good. 

 

Maybe I’m magic. The idea of being magic sort of freaks her out, so Miu tries to ignore such a concept. Instead, her gaze turns to some nearby bushes where a weird creature holding a mask floats over. 

 

Okay, what’s going on? What is that thing? 

 

It seems worried as it comes over to her. 

 

“Are you okay? I saw you falling out of the sky! What a fall that must have been, I’m surprised you didn’t faint!” 

 

Miu blinks in surprise at this creature, “Oh- uh- yeah, I’m fine.” 

 

The creature looks relieved and it offers her a smile, “That’s a relief!” 

 

Miu isn’t sure how to respond, so she stays quiet instead and just watches this other creature. 

 

“Well… my name is Mika! What’s yours?” 

 

Mika is awfully friendly, Miu observes. She rubs the side of her face with the back of her paw. 

 

“Miu. Where am I?” 

 

Mika looks surprised, “You’re on the outskirts of the Blooming Fields!” Mika explained, “Are you not from around here?”

 

“This may sound hard to believe… but I’m a human.” Miu holds her breath while she watches Mika take in this information. 

 

“I don’t believe you. But that’s fine. I’ll play along. If you’re human then you’re a pokemon now.” 

 

Miu feels done with this “pokemon” already. 

 

“What are you?” Miu asks, wanting an answer on this pokemon. 

 

“I’m a yamask, the normal, cooler version.” 

 

At first glance, this pokemon seemed nice. But now? They’re kind of a jerk. The face Miu must have made must have been hilarious considering this yamask burst into a fit of laughter and nearly dropped his mask. 

 

What a jerk. 

 

“Hey, since you say you’re new, why don’t you stay with me? We can go to the Guild Hall and become adventurers together so you can explore the world.” Mika suggested. 

 

Miu doesnt know why she would even consider another moment with this pokemon, but maybe it was the fact that he knew more than her, so she would be better off just tailing him around. Miu nods, trying to swallow down how irritating Mika’s grin looked. 

 

“Great! Follow me!” Mika starts to float away and Miu is quick to follow. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Miu blinks down at the badge that is now on her shoulder before she looks up at the yamask, who had put his badge on his mask. 

 

The trip here had been torture, considering Mika would constantly insult her whenever she would trip over her own paws. She had started counting how many times he had called her fake. It was a record fifty nine times. Fifty nine! How could you possibly call somebody fake that many times? 

 

Regardless, now Mika was staring at the task board, trying to find something to do but he just seemed bored as he stared at the requests. 

 

“This is all stuff for babies!” He whines, throwing a small temper tantrum. 

 

Miu’s ear twitched as she watched the yamask, “They need help. What’s the problem?” 

 

“I don’t want to waste my time looking for stuff! I want to be important, I want to fight bad guys!” 

 

Miu felt so unamused as she watched Mika. This guy had some nerve to be behaving this way about the people he was meant to be helping out. 

 

Why did he even want to be an adventurer if he didn’t want to help people? Miu may never know. And maybe she didn’t want to know. Yeah, she settled with that. 

 

She didn’t want to know.
