We've decided to create more specific "Other" galleries for Other Fanart and Other Fanfiction.
From now on, when categorizing your artwork and writing, instead of placing your artwork in Other Fanart/Other Fanfiction, please place it in one of the Miscellaneous galleries:
- Misc Anime and Manga
- Misc Literary Works
- Misc Movies
- Misc TV Shows
- Misc Video Games
Please do not put any artwork in the Other Fanart gallery if the artwork can be placed in one of the new Misc galleries. If you have any artwork in the Other Fanart gallery, please take the time to recategorize it. A lot of new galleries have been added recently and it would be great if you could help us out by filling up these new galleries. A list of new galleries is at the end of this news post. I will try to make a news post at the begining of each month with a list of the newest galleries and libraries from the previous month from now on.
A note on literary works.
Our policy about artwork based on literary works has pretty much been that it is acceptable in Original art or Other Fanart. To better clarify this rule, if the artwork is almost completely your own visual creation (meaning you didn't create it based on very specific or trademark items in a story and you didn't base it on existing visual work) then you can place it in the Original gallery and just state in your description that the artwork was inspired by a literary work and state the name of the work.
If the artwork is based on existing literary work that has visual work created already for it, such as Harry Potter, then you'll have to put it in one of the existing fanart galleries.
If the artwork is based on a literary work who's copyright has expired, you are welcome to put the artwork in the Original gallery as long as you state in the description that it was based on/inspired by a literary work and you state the literary work's name.
Birthdays
Now all members will be required to enter their birthdays into the site. The purpose of this is to prevent minors from accessing and posting content in the Red Curtain. Also, those who are logged in and are adults will no longer have to view that pesky warning sign every single time they attempt to enter the Red Curtain.
You can also set your birthday as either public or private. This is so that we can display recent birthdays on pages throughout the site. I will wait a while before implementing the listed birthdays since almost noone has entered their birthdays into the system yet.
UPDATE: A user has reported not being able to access the site after the forced birthday system started. I think I have traced the problem to the Remember Me cookie and have solved the problem by having the site automatically delete your cookie when you visit the site for the first time since the forced birthday update. If you are still experiencing this problem or a similar problem, please contact me.
