Scavenging Roll: Scavenging Roll

Tigalu was back out scavenging, this time he was out in the fields which were covered in a thick layer of snow this time of year. With him was his kirin Windflight as per usual, he also had another tyto with him. She was light coloured with black markings much like he was but her feathers were thick and silky, seeing as her feathers with thicker than his he wasn’t surprised to see that she didn’t seem to mind the snow. His kirin Windflight seemed to really like being out on the fields, they were running through the thick snow and Tigalu could have sworn that the wind was bending around them and propelling them even faster. He knew he had no chance of catching his soul bound companion so he went on with scavenging for something worthwhile. The tyto with him who went by Nixis was already investigating the large expanse of snow-covered grassland curiously. It was still day out, however the weak winter sun wasn’t able to melt any of the snow or ice and was just barely able to be felt. As Tigalu wandered through the snowy fields he would scrape up some of the snow in hopes of uncovering something, he could guess that the thick layer of snow had probably buried plenty of valuables. Nixis was also digging around in the thick snow, she did seem to be enjoying herself and was seemingly playing more so than actually scavenging. She was jumping around in the snow like a young chick, however she did suddenly stop to check out an area where the land dipped downwards a bit. Tigalu wandered the other direction to search, they’d cover more ground if they both searched in different areas. His kirin had seemingly finished running around in joy and was now trotting back over to him, Tigalu greeted them briefly before they both started poking around.

The light from the sun reflected off of the layer of white snow making the entire field feel as if it was almost glowing, Tigalu had to squint to see properly without feeling as though he was being blinded by the harsh glare. While he really didn't mind being out in the daytime it was hard to look for things when he was being blinded by the reflected light of the sun. The light coloured tyto would notice a fallen log that stood out sharply from the snowy expanse of flatland. He would head over to the log and brushed some of the snow off of it, the log had been hollowed out and was filled with snow. Tigalu dug around in the snow for a few moments and couldn’t hide his disappointment when the log was empty, he had been hoping the log would have had something of value stashed away in it. Yet there wasn’t anything even mildly interesting to be found in the log so he moved on, after continuing to poke around for a little while Tigalu would head back in the direction he had last seen Nixis in. Maybe she had found something worthwhile, if not then he could at least try searching in a different area than he currently was now. Windflight trotted beside him as he made his way back to the starting point, he looked around for Nixis but she didn’t seem to be anywhere in sight. That was until he heard snow crunching from behind him and turned around to see her walking over, she sadly didn’t seem to have found anything yet. The female tyto greeted him cheerily before suggesting they search in a different area, that having been what Tigalu had already been thinking he happily followed her to a new area to search. Nixis would lead him a bit more south than where they were searching before and then began poking around at the environment again.

The sun was a bit higher now and was still shining down weakly on the winter landscape, it seemed that the glaring reflection from the snow reflecting the sun's light was only getting brighter as noon approached. Tigalu watched for a few moments as she dug up an area before moving on and poking around all the nooks and crannies of a nearby tree, seeing as she seemed fine on her own he would begin searching an area decently nearby. He glanced back every so often to see that Nixis seemed to be taking this scavenging more serious now and had finished romping around in the snow. She would pull her head out of the tree and seemed to have some sort of material in her beak, Tigalu was happy that she found something but he also wanted to find something himself so he continued on. Eventually after digging through the snow for a little while he found some antlers that must have been shed by some sort of deer or other antlered creature. Tigalu would look up from the antlers to see that Nixis was still looking for more items, she still had some material in her beak. The female tyto was pushing over a medium sized rock with her talons, underneath the rock was a small dip that looked to be an abandoned nest of some sorts. Within the nest were some fancy feathers that were bright blue with a bit of iridescence, Nixis would pick up the feathers as well before looking over at Tigalu. Tigalu would gesture to the female stryx that it was time to go, seeing his gesture she would immediately head over. He then looked around for his kirin Windflight and was relieved to see them frolicing in the snow nearby, with a whistle he called them over. Windflight would quickly trott over and with everyone gathered up the two tytos and the kirin would make their way back home with their loot.
