Style Quest: Varick to the Future pt 2

Chapter 44: Varick to the Future pt 2

“Booting sequence activated,” scrolled across the darkness in green letters. More words and numbers followed it, but Varick couldn’t read them quickly enough as they went by. He felt like he had been sleeping for an eternity and couldn’t move or feel his body. After a few minutes, the darkness turned to white as the face of a dark purple-skinned dark elf with white hair appeared. It was Dr. Morrisa, or as she was more recently known, Agent M-3.

“Agent N-7, this is a recording that I set to autoplay when you finally awoke again,” an explosion sounded behind the scientist, causing her to begin running down a hall. “You sacrificed yourself to ensure the Ark took off, but it was all for naught. The Ark was too damaged and came crashing back down to the planet. Those of us who survived the crash managed to recover your body and upload your consciousness to a robot body. If my calculations are correct, you should be fully charged in a hundred years. We failed in the past, but you can save the future from Gevudan.” Morrisa was engulfed in a ball of flame as the recording stopped.

A loud hiss sounded as the door on the power capsule flew off. The restraints holding Varick in place released, and he could stand. His body felt strange and unfamiliar as lights lit up an empty metal bunker save for the capsule that held Agent N-7 for a century of slumber. Digital displays showing armor integrity, ammo, and available energy appeared before the TAILOR’s left eye. Varick stumbled to the mirror-like metal walls of the bunker to reveal the horrifying truth.

Varick’s body had become that of an android warrior. Black and white metal armor covered his whole body. A helmet covered a realistic-looking version of the horse’s previous face. The former Clydesdale’s blonde mane erupted into a massive ponytail of synthetic hair complimented with an equally enormous tail of the same type of fibers. Where hooves once were, now were large black boots with jump boosters on the bottom. As he stared in horror, Agent N-7’s hand found a new version of his old gun, the Needle Caster, on his belt. It was now compact into a more pistol-like design but appeared to have the same old functionality with more power. On the opposite side of the belt was a sword hilt that, when held, flared to life with a blade of burning blue and purple plasma.

“Hey, you’re finally awake, sleepy,” a familiar voice called out as an image of a blue and green spotted snow leopard appeared in Agent N-7’s eyes. It was Agent Raine, the TAILOR’s partner, before being robotized. “I had Agent M-3 turn my consciousness into a digital fairy so you wouldn’t wake up alone. Plus, I memorized your operations manual because I knew you couldn’t figure this out on your own.”

“Raine… what do I do now? Everything is gone,” Agent N-7 would’ve cried if he could. The lights in the bunker began to flash as a large door opened. Light from outdoors flooded in.

“We destroy the beast that is the Gevudan virus and save the future,” Raine’s image smiled as they appeared to float around the room. “We’re reunited and stronger than ever. Let’s kick some virus butt.”

“Find me something to kill,” the black armored android nodded as he walked out of the bunker, sword, and pistol in hand.
