Chapter 11: Prophet's Revelations

Now, though they did not normally spend their time on specifically one person or group of people, rather opting to watch over the entirety of Euthawal as a whole, even the spirits had been affected by Jordini’s coming. After all, they had been informed about her; she was their creator, and they were the canonical creators of this world, in story, that is. Therefore, it makes sense that they would keep a close watch over her, and the characters that she was following.

Not everyone in the group believed in the spirits. In fact, Magnolia was the only one. She had met the spirits, and their prophet, and therefore believed in them. Though the others had not. The truth was that the rest of them could not even see the spirits. This was evident when a spirit sat on a rock near them in broad daylight. Magnolia had seen it, and tried to show it to the others, though they did not understand. They never did understand.

But this meant that it would be hard for them to explain what would happen next. The five of them sat together in camp, their fire burning bright and spewing smoke everywhere. The stars were out tonight, and they could see the various constellations in Euthawal, constellations that represented various myths and folktales in the various kingdoms.

“There’s Montserrat,” Kayne pointed up and outlined a path of stars which formed a warrior.

“Who’s that?” asked Evanora. She was the only one who could not point out the constellations, as she had never even properly seen the night sky before she had joined this group.

“Well, Montserrat was the greatest king in the Strength Kingdom’s history.”

Evanora let out a noise of interest and went back to looking at the beautiful stars, glistening and twinkling like no one in the group had seen before. A particular path of stars was shining brighter than all the rest, forming a specific sign that Magnolia recognized immediately. She sat up quickly, brushing grass from her dress and fixing her hair.

“What are you doing, Magnolia?” Azia asked. “Do you not wish to continue looking at the stars?”

“Oh, I do, my comrade,” Magnolia answered, “but there is someone important that may be coming to visit us soon.”

“Who’s coming out to visit us in the middle of the forest?” Evanora butted in, turning on her side to face Magnolia.

“Well, I do believe I have already told you of the spirits-”

At this, Evanora immediately burst into laughter. While the others simply did not believe, Evanora and her childish nature took it a step further. Whenever the spirits were mentioned to her, she could not control herself from fits of laughter, as the notion of spirits was ridiculous to her nomad lifestyle and background. This was no exception.

“Evanora, calm down,” Staerrlingg said, noticing the frustration on Magnolia’s face. “Let her finish-”

He was interrupted by her laughter becoming more intense. It would be a while before she would calm down once again. Even with what would happen next, she would still be in a very gigglish mood.

Wind rushed past them, weaving through the five of them and bending the light around. A small bell chimed rhythmically, as though being carried by someone walking at a brisk pace. The stars shifted above them, forming patterns and symbols only understandable to those taught to interpret them. Magnolia looked at what seemed to be a random direction, though in truth, she was following the spirit which was weaving his way between them all.

Upon noticing her, the spirit stopped by the fire, standing with a sword in his hand. He was taller than even Kayne, very well built. Armor clinked together around his body, highlighted with spots of gold. His eyes were serious. It was clear he had a message, or rather, a mission. Magnolia was the only one who could see this description, however. She walked to the spirit and bowed to him.

“Hello, warrior of the spirits. Why do you come to us today?”

“I have come to talk to you about important business regarding He Who Shall Not Be Named, and things which we believe you should know about a new arrival to our world from one of the others.”

“Ah, yes. If there is important news, I should like to hear-”

At that point, all of the others had sat up, and Azia made her way over to Magnolia, looking directly at her.

“Magnolia, who are you talking to?” she asked, looking around before glancing back at Magnolia, her hands clasped in front of her body as they always were.

“Ah, Azia. You do seem as though you would believe me the most out of the four of you. I am talking to a warrior of the spirits. I know that you are unable to see him, though, so I shall introduce you.”

Magnolia grasped Azia’s hand and took it to the spirits. Azia could feel nothing when they shook hands, though it appeared as though something were keeping her arm in the air when she tried to take it down.

“It is nice to meet you,” the warrior said to Azia.

“She cannot hear you,” Magnolia reminded him.

Azia went back to the rest of the group, very much confused and trying to interpret what had just happened, and inspecting her hand, which was now covered in a dust that glowed like the moon. Spirit dust.

“Now, it would be very much appreciated if you could continue telling me the business which you believe must be addressed.”

“A girl from another world has arrived to ours, though she is far different from you and I. We have told you that He Who Shall Not Be Named is the highest authority in this world, correct?”

“Correct,” Magnolia affirmed, growing increasingly worried.

“Well, that is not entirely true. While, yes, He Who Shall Not Be Named is a top authority, there is one who is more powerful than him.”

“And who might that be?”

“Her name is Jordini. She has just arrived to Euthawal. In fact, she is seeking you out personally, as she wished to meet you all.”

“Really!”

“Yes. She comes from a world called Skriva, a world outside the normal continuum of our worlds. That is why you have not heard of it, because we were unable to show it to you the night you became our next prophet. However, when you do meet her, please be hospitable to her and talk to her amicably. She is not the type to enjoy being treated like our creator, but rather, as a friend. She has also suffered many pains to see you, so she may arrive wounded. Please trust me when I say that is completely normal for her.”

“I see. Where is she currently, though? Would it be possible to meet her now?”

“I am afraid not,” He glanced away and adjusted his armor. “I and the other spirits have decided that you must take your course to find each other. It will only make your meeting more meaningful.”

“I understand. Thank you for talking to me.”

“It was my pleasure. And do continue the great work you have been doing for the spirits. Though your efforts are unfruitful, they will be. Someday.”

The two of them bowed to each other, before he went back up to the sky and the stars slowly returned to normal, shifting back to their original positions, just as they had been for hundreds of thousands of millenia.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group was extremely concerned, as to them, it appeared as though Magnolia had been talking to nothing. Kayne went to Magnolia and joined her side as she walked back.

“Hey, you alright?” he whispered in her ear. “You don’t have any of that whiteflower, do you?”

“Ah, no.” She smiled a bitter smile at the remembrance of it. “I was simply talking to a friend.”

Between the five of them, there was a very interesting conversation to be had, though they all avoided it. None of the four wished to address what they had just seen, and Magnolia decided to wait to tell them of Jordini’s presence. She would wait until they had seen more to affirm that the spirits were real. The only question in her mind was how long it would take Jordini to find them.
