Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Inuyasha is not owned by me, myself, or I. Disclamer stated, on with the story

"So this bone-eaters well thing actually lets you go back and forth between times?"

"Yes, it does. Were you only pretending to listen earlier?" Kagome laughed.

"It wasn’t that. I assumed you meant that after you fell through you were stuck here the same as I am. Do you…do you think it could send me back home to the same time I left, I’m still a little worried about how many other people that demon could have killed before the team arrived."

"The well doesn’t work like that. It won’t send me back to the exact time I entered it. I’ve been here for two weeks so if I were to go into the well right now two weeks would have passed in that time and like wise if I stay home for two weeks, those two weeks pass here. I don’t really understand the how’s and why’s of it, I just know that’s how it is. I’ve never been able to take anyone other than Inuyasha into my time, but maybe since you’re from there we’ll be able to take you to my house and get you on a plane home. It’s worth a try at least, besides I need to go home anyway. I have to find out what the testing schedule is for final exams and I’m certain I have a ton of assignments waiting for me to do them. I also want to let my mama know I’ve decided to wait a year before going to collage so I can stay here longer and hopefully complete the Shikon Jewel."

The group had finished their early supper and was relaxing for the rest of the day. Miroku was in a meditation pose daydreaming about things he could do with three willing women. Sango was sitting in a small circle with Kagome (who was holding a sullen Shippo on her lap) and Karma. She was absently petting Kirara, while secretly being amused by the fact that Karma truly did talk as much as Kagome. Inuyasha had been leaning against a large tree but hearing Kagome he snapped,

"What the hell do you mean you need to go home again? You just fucking left there! How are we supposed to find Naraku with you running home all the damn time and making us back track constantly?"

"Inuyasha, I’ve been here for two weeks and it will take another two weeks to get back to the village. I told you I’ll be able to stay longer as soon as I graduate, but if I don’t go home and catch up my work that isn’t going to happen. Besides we haven’t found a single clue as to where Naraku is hiding and if there’s a chance we can get Karma home we need to try it."

"Feh, do whatever you…"

"Rin is pesentable Jaken!! Lord Sesshoumaru did not say I can’t look for the fire-lady, so let Rin go NOW!"

"OUCH, get back here!"

Rin came crashing through the shrubbery downstream from where the group was relaxing. Jaken was angrily following her but stopped short when he spotted the group who had all jumped up after hearing the commotion caused by Rin. When the little girl noticed Kagome and the auburn haired woman next to her, she screeched happily and ran to them.

"Lady Kagome! You found the fire-lady!"

"Hello, Rin. What are you doing out here alone?"

Rin’s eyes bulged and filled with tears as she saw the bandage wrapped around Karma’s waist.

"What happened to your belly fire-lady, did the monster eat you cause you saved Rin? I’m not alone, Lady Kagome. Jaken is over there and Lord Sesshoumaru is finding the monster so it can’t make fire-lady dead. Do you have a name too fire-lady? My name is Rin."

Karma knelt down so that she was almost eye level with the little girl, then told her,

"My name is Karma, little one. I’m very happy to see that you’re safe. The monster didn’t eat me. It just scratched me a little bit before I killed it. You don’t have to worry about it anymore. Kagome was kind enough to fix my scratch and now it doesn’t even hurt anymore."

Before anyone could question the little girl, Sesshoumaru stepped out of the forest halfway between Jaken and the group. Smiling broadly Rin ran to him and said,

"I found the fire-lady, Lord Sesshoumaru. Her name is Lady Karma and she killed the monster because it scratched her. I’m very glad it didn’t eat her first."

"Go to Jaken, Rin."

The child bowed to him then went directly to Jaken’s side. Inuyasha meanwhile had stepped forward with his hand on Tetsusaiga’s hilt prepared to draw the sword.

"What are you doing here Sesshoumaru? Looking for me to kick your ass?"

"Inuyasha how can you be so daft, to think a mere half-demon could ever defeat a full demon as powerful as I, Sesshoumaru? I will teach you respect for you betters another time. My business is apparently not with you but with the detestable red-haired human."

Not being able to hear the conversation between the brothers, and assuming they couldn’t hear her Karma whispered,

"Why didn’t either of you mention Inuyasha’s brother looks that good?"

Kagome and Sango made a strangled noise which brought Karma’s attention to go to Inuyasha who had turned his back to Sesshoumaru and was staring at her with a shocked look on his face. When she dared to glance at Sesshoumaru she saw a slight arrogant smirk on his face. How the hell did they hear me?! I’m going to die of embarrassment right here and now, Karma thought in a panic.

"Come here, human" Sesshoumaru commanded.

Karma stood straight and trying not to look as mortified as she felt walked forward until she was standing a little in front of Inuyasha, but not too close to the man she could now see had extremely cold eyes and the slight smile on his face seemed to shout a warning that this man was ruthless.

"You are Karma. The human that killed the fire-demon, correct?"

"Yes."

"I find it hard to believe a meager human woman has the power to burn a demon completely to ash. I demand you tell me how that was accomplished."

Pissed off by his arrogance, she forgot her previous embarrassment and snapped,

"Why would I tell someone as full of himself as you are anything at all about what I can do? How about you try asking, instead of ordering like you’re some kinda damn royalty."

"Insignificant wench, you are beginning to annoy me which is unwise. You willingly joined with this band of despicable weaklings, showing just how idiotic you are. I will eventually destroy them all, so do not be foolish enough to stay in their company. You will care for Rin in service to me and I shall allow this scum to live temporarily."

Jaws dropped after hearing Sesshoumaru tell a ‘lowly’ human to serve him. Karma not realizing how strange that was, only knew the asshole had insulted people she already considered her friends. She charged at him fast, meaning to connect a solid punch to his jaw but he easily caught her fist in midswing. She tried to free it from the encompassing steal of his grip and failing that she shouted at him,

"You’re the only scum I see here, asshole."

She then tried to connect with her other fist getting the same result. They all looked on in horror at Karma being held captive by the demon, knowing he could kill her easily before even Inuyasha could reach them. Sesshoumaru was looking down at Karma. His face had lost the smirk and became his normal expressionless mask.

"If you are going to attack me I would suggest you use more effective weapons than these tiny fists. However, if you are so foolish to try attacking me again, I will retaliate."

He flung her backwards with enough force to knock her into Miroku, who was standing quite a distance away. Inuyasha unsheathed Tetsusuaga and screamed at the retreating demon,

"Get back here, bastard! I’m gonna rip you apart, coward!"

Sesshoumaru simply picked up Rin and jumped to the back of the lizard which had been following Jaken.

"As I said my business is not with you today, half-breed. I shall attend to your demise another day."

The lizard took off into the air carrying the trio swiftly out of sight. Inuyasha, muttering to himself about his half brother’s cowardness, returned to the group with a respectful but speculative look on his face. Karma was pulling out of Miroku’s arms bitching,

"That fucking creep! How dare he call you all scum! I’m going to shove my dagger right through that pretty face of his! How in the hell did you two hear me from way over there, that’s impossible!"

"What’s impossible is you thinking you had a chance to even touch that bastard. Of course we could hear you, we’re dog-demons. We hear and smell better than any other demon, how can you not know that if you hunt demons?"

"I haven’t needed to hunt a dog-demon down so I haven’t gotten access to behavioral files on them. I’ll kill the fucker if I see him again, no one threatens my friends’ lives."

"Don’t be stupid, Karma. I haven’t even been able to kill him yet. It’s brave of you to have tried but if he would’ve wanted to kill you, he could have before I took one step to help you. Stay as far away from the bastard as you can or I’ll kick your ass myself. You need to control that temper."

"Inuyasha is correct, Karma, even if he is the last person to be telling others to keep their temper. The wisest course for you to follow is staying as far from Sesshoumaru as possible and letting Inuyasha handle him."

"What the fuck do you mean, I shouldn’t tell people to control their tempers?! You want me to kick you’re ass now, Miroku!?"

"Inuyasha, sit. You know your temper is terrible, so knock it off."

"Karma, you really did attack him just cause he insulted us, didn’t you? I like you after all, I wasn’t sure if I did before. That was really brave even if he could have killed you."

"Is that why you’ve been so quite, you weren’t sure you liked me traveling with you?" Karma laughed all her anger forgotten for the moment. "I’m not certain it was bravery rather than temper and ignorance. After all these warnings I think I’ll try to stay away from that asshole from now on."

"You had better stay the fuck away from him." Inuyasha stated getting up from the ground with a pissed look towards Kagome.

A/N: Sesshoumaru's arm will be explained later on as will most questions that arise. Feel free to question me if you wish anyway because you might be catching something I missed. Just keep in mind that I reserve the right not to answer if your question will be answered in a planned out chapter.
