Summer Games - DoA: Dangling Doughnuts

Oh how excited he was! But it seemed as though his energy needed some replenishing after they managed to score 42 polyp whacks, as he seemed to be quite keen for those delicious hanging doughnuts. 

 

Voxaria found herself following that little, enthusiastic pup all the way down to the line, watching those in front having their flippers wrapped with thick kelp and seaweed, pinning them behind their back. They used their tails and attempted to twist their bodies up towards those floating doughnuts, which she could taste even from so far away. It had an oddly fishy scent to it, although, she wasn't one to mind, they looked delicious either way, and certainly tasted it. 

 

The young pup by her side was almost itching in excitement as they got to the front of the queue, restless and unable to stop moving at all as the last pair, a giant aqrion and an abyssal duo, were called off, Voxaria noticed that they had exactly two minutes to consume as many of the doughnuts as they possibly could. A seemingly long time frame, but when the flippers were tied and they were unable to reach it easily enough, not long at all. But the abyssal gave Voxaria an idea, as they were using their long tail almost like a spring to try and get higher - but they didn't seem to be able to push them up... 

 

But what if she did that for the young pup that she was baby sitting?

 

Maybe he could get that little bit higher and secure a few doughnuts for himself?

 

It wasn't long before a brown seaskimmer with a tangerine eel stripe down their side approached them, a smile stretching across their face, waving a flipper to call them forward. The duo moved towards them, the pup's head looking up to the doughnuts and then back down to Voxaria and the sea skimmer, enthusiastic to play the game.

 

"It seems as if someone is excited," They began, indicating the small pup, who still was wriggling and seemed to be itching with excitement, "Would you like to stay still for a few moments so that I can tie up your flippers?" 

 

The pup nodded several times, turning around and crossing their flippers behind their back, allowing the seaskimmer to tie up them up, doing the same for Voxaria, who didn't need to be told, an amused smile resting over her face. 

 

"Rightio, there's no rules aside from don't break out of your binds. Eat as many doughnuts as you like." The seaskimmer instructed, the little pup nodding enthusiastically, "Right! 2 minutes begins now." 

 

Instantly, the young pup pushed himself back onto his tail, trying to spring himself up to eat those doughnuts. Voxaria may have been a bit peckish, but seeing this young one having fun was a bit more important to her at this time. Moving her tail, she hooked it underneath his, "Get ready to grab it!" She instructed as he looked to her, then back up to the doughnut, nodding. Voxaria pushed her chest to the ground, digging it into the sand slightly as she stabilised herself, before throwing him up into the water. He yelped a little in surprise at the rather odd throw, but his eyes were fixated on those doughnuts! His eyes narrowed as he got that little bit closer, closer...

 

Chomp! 

 

He grabbed the doughnut, managing to break off half of the small circle in one snap, dragging it back down to the sand as he hurriedly munched on it, trying to eat what he had before his flippers were close to the ground once more. Voxaria shifted her tail slightly, curling around to position herself a little better, eyeing off where she would throw him again.

 

"Again, again!" He cried out as soon as his flippers touched the ground once more. With a small grunt of effort, Voxaria twisted her tail and threw him back up into the water, watching as he skimmed through the waters and his jaw clamped down on the other half of the doughnut. Quickly the young one ate it, descending once more towards her tail.

 

Although she noticed that the seaskimmer seemed rather surprised with what the duo were doing, and moved towards the side, carefully and subtly tugging a few of the long strands of seaweed and kelp, pulling the doughnuts up that little bit higher.

 

Without skipping a step, so to speak, as soon as Voxaria felt him against her tail, she threw him back up into the water. But with the extra distance, his jaws snapped shut short, missing the delicious doughnut. With a small grumble, he twisted around and wiggled his way down quicker towards her, quickly repositioning to face it again when he got down. 

 

"Higher, higher!" He called out, Voxaria wincing a little at the harshness of the excitement in his voice. She didn't want to hurt the young one by accident, but she still moved, throwing him back up into the sea, watching him slice through the water a little bit quicker, a little bit higher...

 

Snap! 

 

His jaws came down once more against that delicious doughnut, managing to tear the whole thing off at once! Happily he chomped down on it he sank. Voxaria prepared herself to throw him up into the air as she felt him land on her tail, but before she could even bundle her muscles, the seaskimmer's voice sounded once more.

 

"Time's up!" They declared, the young pup whining softly as they came down to undo their bindings, Voxaria, hearing the pups disappointment, glanced over her shoulder to him.

 

"You know... We could get in line and try again?" She offered, a soft expression on her face, not wanting the pup to be too disappointed that they only managed to get two.

 

The pups sudden, infectious enthusiasm indicated that that was most certainly the right thing to offer, and the duo swam to the back of the line as soon as their bindings were gone.
