Chapter 3: Giant Hunting

Voxalia was, admittedly, feeling rather hungry as she her flippers slowly moved to push her through the waters. But hungry was almost a lie, she was absolutely famished! She'd been exploring for quite some time, having not been able to find any sort of food really, wandering through the currents, the cool water biting at her flippers and fins, making her grumble in frustration.

But then she felt something in the currents of the water, disrupting them with a sudden flurry of movement.

Interest peaked, she twisted to her left, giving a soft trill, listening as information was returned back to her. She took a quick, sudden dive down into the depths, driving herself deeper and deeper into the cold waters, trying to find what she was looking for. But instead of seeing it, what she found was something entirely different.

Towers made of carved stone were erected throughout the base of the chasm she found, wisps of opportunistic kelp taking hold in some of their grooves, where former mortar used to hold them together. These carved stone towers were arranged in such a way that they created underwater arches, although some damaged and fallen. Others used to be glorious, wondrous in splendour of all sizes were subject to the underwater currents and torrents, brought down to nothing more broken and eroded homes, small fish finding and seeking out larger chunks of missing stone which were scattered around, hiding in the small gaps which they offered.

Voxalia paused in her thoughts.

What were they hiding from exactly?

Her question was quickly answered when, as she rounded a small corner of one of those large pillars, she saw two quick moving sea skimmers, dashing to and fro, trying to take advantage of the lack of focus for a split second for their larger prey. Although, the prey could turn against them in a moments notice, as those tendrils moved rapidly, lashing behind it as the squid shot forward, deeper into the ruins. The only issue was, was that these two sea skimmers were seemingly younger, one a dark grey, near black, with a shimmering stream of blue and purple down its side, purple 'cracks' across the surface of their fins, and a brilliant coloured membrane down its spine. The other was still dark, midnight which trailed down into a blood red crimson at its tail, patterns of grey down either side, accompanying its red tail, three pairs of ruby eyes.

The pair were chasing down that giant squid, almost as large as Voxalia herself, but it seemed as if they were making it more angry than tired, its colours changing from deep blues to shimmering blacks, warning them that it was getting irritated with their constant harassment.

"Red, chase it to the right!" The purple instructed quickly, and the red-tailed dragon quickly moved itself, jaws snapping near the creatures left tendrils. The giant squid suddenly turned, tendrils lashing out and striking Red's nose, making them yelp in alarm as Voxalia began to judge just when she should interfere to help these two young ones.

Sharlok flicked their fins, propelling themselves with their tail, driving deeper into the water, spiralling across and striking the squid's side. The squid didn't exactly appreciate that, turning back to face its two aggressors, tendrils moving and striking away Sharlok as well, trying to keep those two at bay from hurting it. Although, by the angry, shimmering black of the squid, it was clear that it was done playing games.

But at the same time Voxalia was also done with judging just what was going on.

Thrusting herself forward, tail flinging her through the water, the larger aqrion crashed into the side of the squid, the large thing expelling the ink which it held within. Although, thanks to how close the pair of them were, Voxalia moved her neck, wrapping around the squid, or as much as she could, her maw grabbing at the tendrils, trying to keep it from hurting those sea skimmers, her heavy bulk shoving it down into one of those heavy stone pillars.

There was a great crack as the pillar almost broke from the force of the two giant creatures crashing down against it, Voxalia using her weight as an advantage, pushing the struggling squid down. However, even though she tried her best to push it down, maw trying to strike anywhere it could with those tendrils, but wasn't able to get a firm grip. She could feel the slippery little squid begin to squeeze out of her grasp.

The two little sea skimmers saw their chance, not wasting a moment as the squid was suddenly pinned down instead of beginning to size them up and the duo quickly made their way forward, Red helping with pulling some of those tendrils away, keeping them down from Voxalia. Shalok however, ensured that the squid wouldn't get away, bullying it by snapping and attacking its head.

Thankfully, between the three of them, the squid didn't last too much longer.

Although, consequentially, the trio found themselves with quite a large meal in front of them, as well as a few new, unexpected hunting partners.
