Chapter 2: Gathering Sea Grass

After quite the argument and a small amount of frustration between the pair, Malachite had gone out alone as Spessartine had just been too tired to keep helping out. Malachite felt his scales... Almost ruffled by that. It just wasn't like Spessy to suddenly refuse to help.

But really? They wanted them to gather kelp after hauling so many logs?! With a gruff grumble of frustration, the Giant slowly made his way through the crowds of workers, most of them darting around him and avoiding crashing into him... For the most part. He felt someone crash into his side and he gave an annoyed grumble. "Watch where you're going." He almost snapped, glancing over his shoulder, only to look surprised as that mottled green Phin Singer was there, just what was she doing?

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I've been quite busy rushing about with trying to gather recruits with gathering some long strings of kelp! Unfortunately, no one seems to want to help me carry the bundles back home..." Jade whined quietly as Malachite rose an eyeridge, snarling quietly at other bustling Aqrions as they got a bit too close to him, making sure even those giant Abyssals were keeping their distance. Giving a small chuckle, Malachite shook his head at Jade.

"Well," He began with a gentle sigh, "It seems like you're in luck, that other... Shiny one back there," He flicked a flipper towards another Phin Singer who was thoroughly enjoying handing out orders, "Told me to go help with some seagrass gathering." He said gruffly, to which, Jade squee'd in delight.

"Excellent! Then you can help me out and carry some back! That would be excellent." Jade chirped, before looking around, a small frown on her face. "Is your orange friend joining us?"

Malachite flinched. "No."

He didn't want to talk about it... She just wasn't acting herself recently. Jade nodded, before flicking a flipper, "Well, follow me then! I'd be glad to have some help from you, you'll be able to haul quite a lot of grass for decorations and stuff!" Jade chirped, before raising turning away and swimming off into the crowd. Growing internally at the entire situation, Malachite shouldered his way through the crowd, quickly following Jade as she made her way out of the bustling area.

It took them quite a while to actually get to the area which Jade wanted some help gathering from and when they got there... It was obvious why she was choosing this area.

There was sea grass and kelp of various different colours, from rich brilliant greens to dull purples and some greens with streaks of a browny orange. There were small creatures swimming around them, giving it a sense of completion as Malachite slowly followed her down, watching as several other Aqrions with various items attached to their flippers moved to slice off the grasses. Jade hummed softly as she lead Malachite down to the sand where various piles of sea grass was present.

They had been harvesting it seemingly for several hours but there was absolutely no one who was able to actually come and collect the piles. Chirping happily, Jade indicated towards the pile with her head, "This is what I needed some help moving!" She said, snapping Malachite out of his troubled thoughts and back to reality, his mind worried and wondering about his mate.

But as she began to give some instructions, his mind wandered again.

Why was she being so objective to helping others out? There was just... Absolutely no way she would normally object to helping someone. Normally she was the one who was off helping whenever she could with Malachite dragging her back to bed and forcing her to rest... But in this regard, she was just not herself, there was absolutely nothing that would stop her from helping!

"Heeey, Malachite? Is anyone home?" Jade sung, waving her flipper in front of his face. He growled gently, before shaking his head, "Yes, sorry, I'm just thinking."

Jade raised an eyeridge.at him, "As I was saying... We need to just take these piles back to where they're dropping off the driftwood. It shouldn't take more than a dozen trips from someone as big as you, especially if you haul it and have it strapped to you!" Jade sung happily, making Malachite give a small, internal groan. Jade almost seemed to sense that and gave a giggle, winking at him, "Don't be so sad, it'll be fine!" She sung, before moving towards the piles.

Malachite followed her, the two slowly loading him up with as much sea grass and kelp as they could of as many colours as they could. Strapping it down to him by long, twisted length of kelp and tying it to his scales, they made sure that not a leaf would fall off. With a satisfied nod, Jade sent him off to deliver the goods.

It did indeed take around a dozen trips for the Aqrion to deliver the entirety of the harvested sea grass. By the end of the thirteenth and final trip that he made, he pulled the rope of kelp off him, dropping the last load of sea grass off. Bags were visible underneath his eyes, obviously very, very tired as Jade chirped in joy, somehow still having some joy around her, giving him a nudge with her nose.

"Thank you for your help, you're good to go!" She said happily, to which Mal nodded, groaning again.

He was glad that was over... Hopefully they didn't need him again and he could visit his little Spessy again.
