Chapter 3: Building the Hall

Back to the bustling business of the day, it'd been quite a few days that Malachite and Spessartine had decided to take off. Spessy had been curled up in their temporary den with Malachite curled up around her to keep the smaller dragon protected. Well, it wasn't exactly to protect her, she didn't need protecting, just look at those spiky spines! They could almost poke someones eye out if they weren't careful about it.

In the distance, between the chattering of the dragons, there were some heavy thuds beginning to sound over them all. That plus the arguments of others were being carried for what seemed like miles to interrupt their sleep, the green dragon raising an eyeridge as he looked towards the mouth of the cave, the small glowing slug moving more underneath Spessartine's flipper to try and block out some of that annoying noise. What could possibly be that . . . Intense to cause so much yelling?

With a very loud and sudden yawn, Spessartine stretched her flippers out, sending the little slug skittering along the ground, her back pressing into Malachite's side as she gave that mighty, toothy yawn. After she closed her mouth again, Malachite laughed softly as she peered out through the cave, the slug on its back and wiggling its legs, trying to get itself back onto its feet as Spessartines eyes sleepily squinting. "Just what... on earth are they doing...?" She asked quietly, the gentle green giant gave a gentle grumble.

"Who knows, but they woke you up, so why should we care?" He asked, still a bit grumpy with the situation, the slug managing to flick itself back onto its feet and it slid over to Spessy, climbing back onto her flipper. Spessy laughed gently as she tilted her head, giving the green dragon a very soft nuzzle, "It doesn't matter if they woke me up! But we really should care, what if someone out there needs help or something?"

Malachite gave her a very stern look, the amber dragoness giving a small blush, "Whaaaat~?" She sung, only being met with the green dragon rolling his eyes, "You never worry about yourself, do you?"

Spessy shook her head to answer his question, before she gave another yawn, stretching for a second time as she felt Malachite move, pushing himself off the sand, "Come on, if you're so curious and oh so worried, then we should go and have a look, no?"

Spessartine pouted for a few moments before she eventually nodded. He was right, if she wanted to know just what was going on, they needed to actually go over there. She began to push off the colourful sand, guiding the slug to sit between a few of her back spines, making sure there was enough room for it to chill and not fall off before they started swimming.

It didn't take long for the pair of them to get up and start heading over there, the volume of phin singers dashing past them and bumping into them at the same time was beginning to drive Malachite crazy. Spessartine was giving them warning growls before they got too close, not wanting to be touched by the other creatures. Just because they were busy didn't mean that they had to be inconsiderate and just push both of them around. It just wasn't fair, not at all! Malachite wrapped one of his flippers around her, between her spines, keeping her close to him, trying to save her from most of the other dragons almost crashing into them every few seconds. As they pushed through the busy crowds it became more and more obvious why they were all being upset and shouting at one another.

They were trying to build a giant stage of some sort... Or at least, that's what it looked like.

Spessartine raised an eyeridge at what she saw, opening her mouth to speak before she winced as she heard someone else behind her squeaking in delight.

"Spessartine! Malachite! I'm so glad to see you're both here today, do you think that we can get some help? We're trying to build a stage you see, for that surprise event we have been setting up! But you see, we can't necessarily hold all of the heavy logs and thread kelp and stuff at the same time, do you think that you could give us a hand?" A very familiar green mottled phin singer sung from behind them, moving in front of them to face them, completely oblivious to the crowd around her. It even made Spessy's pet slug blink in surprise at how much she wasn't phased by the crowds.

Soessartine was just as surprised as Malachite and she nodded, "Uhh, of course! Just, what do you need some help with?" She asked, mildly hoping to hear that the work wasn't going to be too hard or heavy on her.

Unfortunately Jade nodded and giggled, "I think that you both would be really helpful with moving and holding up some of those heavy logs for our little Phin Singer gang to tie it all together with kelp!" She declared in excitement, to which Spessartine's face fell. Malachite nudged her cheek softly, "Come on, let's go... Hopefully they'll only want us for a few hours."

Although his words did little to soothe the amber aqrion as the trio swam to the construction site. Spessartine and Malachite go to work with moving those heavy driftwood pieces, pushing and holding up some of the heavier tree trunks while the small phin singers tied it all up together. They slowly progressed from making just the skeletal frame of the stage, to laying it all down with pieces of wood, weaving the kelp between them to form a soft, gentle mat. Although on three of the four sides, they erected tall walls, Malachite and Spessartine helping to shoulder them up as they worked on it, even their little pet was getting to work and pushing up some of the smaller sticks!

Hours dragged by, Spessartine almost beginning to fall asleep in a heap by the time Jade came over to them, chirping in delight. "It looks like we're done for the day~!" She sung happily, a wide smile over her face. "Soon our guests will arrive, why don't you three take the rest of the week off until they get here?"

Those words were like music to their ears and, without waiting for Jade, or even giving them a chance to change their mind, the pair quickly turned away and swam groggily back to their temporary den, bunking down to sleep for the rest of the night.
