Chapter 1: Arrival to Soujel

“BLOODY HELL WITH YOU WANKER!”

A feminine voice shouted from the top of her lungs from an airship cabin, paper spewing in all directions as a metal man in a suit was flung out with a tray of food, crashing into the nearest wall with a loud CLANG. With a furious stride, a young woman with black hair in lavender and green garb entered the room holding an assortment of paper sparkling with light in one hand and an empty tea cup in the other.

“What’s gotten into you!?” The man responded, a mechanical whirring as steam came out of his head, “It’s just paper!” His metallic jaw would loosen up ever so slightly to the point that he was now holding it with his non-mangled hand.

Nearby, constructs and people had stopped what they were doing to see this unfold as a gust of wind blew from behind the young lady.

“JUST PAPER!? And I suppose that is JUST A BADGE?” The woman’s face was a vibrant red as her silver eyes narrowed at the man that was on the ground.

The tin man exploded, pointing at the badge that was firmly screwed to his chest. “This badge is a sign of my loyalty to my people! A sign of protecting the just and quelling the unjust!”

“Like I give a bloody damn about your loyalty! My point is: this isn’t a mundane object!” The black-haired woman argued, flailing the paper about, “This is paper made from the finest quality of Magus Thunbergii, a pine tree that had been chopped down and had its bark whittled away to create a small vessel of sortilege that allows any form of magic to be produced!” She spat. “A drop of the natural elements could cause even the most volatile of explosions if the mana was concentrated! Do you have any idea what damage you could have caused!?”

Before the tin man could say anything, the young woman huffed, turning around and slamming the door of her cabin shut. “You tell me when we arrive now! I want no word from your sorry arse until we dock at the port!”

A grumble was heard followed by a resigned sigh.

Hearing the footsteps fade into the distance, the lady turned to the rest of the cabin - empty except for herself, some red seats with a golden trim, and a table stacked with glistening paper, “These people and their blatant disregard for others’ belongings … That ‘person’ should be turned to scrap metal. I swear to the lords above.”

She scooted behind the table, adjusting the hem of her dress before crossing her legs. She picked up her calligraphy brush by its blue handle, twirling it in her hand as she took a deep breath and exhaled. The woman could feel the heat of her anger drain from her face as she rested her wrist on the table.

A blank sheet of dazzling paper sat before her, stained brown by the empty teacup she would settle to the side.

How infuriating.

“My resignation letter’s been tarnished. Lovely.” She said, rolling her eyes at fate. Pushing the parchment out of her way, spotting dim pieces of ash, the black-haired lady pouted. “I can’t tell them how I left … but I also can’t simply ignore the problem.”

Ding! A bell chimed.

“No, I blame you for my outburst. This never would have happened if I were back at the estate.” The woman whispered, glaring at her side.

Ding! Ding!

“You know as well as I do the worrisome effects that can come about from playing with fire. Why would I listen to you?” She hissed.

Ding!

The woman sighed, massaging her temples as she got up. “The Spirit Bane was your doing, you influenced them by fibbing possibilities.”

“I miss home,” the lady muttered.

A knock followed by a voice ... Ah, this was the heap of metal she threw out earlier. “Lady Yari ng Vos’ vas!”

“Are you kidding?” The lady called out, sliding the door open, “Did I not say ‘I don’t want to hear a word from you’? I have to report you for–”

“Uh, yes, but, Lady Yari, we just received word that–”

“Well? Spill it!”

Now arriving at Soujel …

With a deadpan glance, Yari faced the robotic individual with crossed arms and a tapping foot. The wind whistled behind her, the silence deafening as Yari made a popping sound with her lips and placed both her hands on her hips. “I’m waiting.”

“For what?” The man replied.

Yari scowled, quickly shoving the individual aside with a gust of wind and paper as she stepped out while bringing along her purple luggage case. Before leaving, the young lady turned her head towards the scrap metal man, speaking up rather abruptly, “You should be aware that tossing out Magus Thunbergii materials such as the paper my family produces can’t be disposed of through ordinary means. Fire will cause it to combust, Earth will create an overflow of energy, I’ve been careful with my magic and Water … Are you listening?”

The metallic individual massaged his temples, his jaw unhinged for a moment in a dumbstruck appearance before he shoved it back in place and fixed the screws of his mandible, “Sorry … I think you have dislocated some of my body from earlier.”

Yari was on the verge of taking the nearest pillow and screaming into it. “Forget it! Do what you must! If you explode, that is entirely your fault, understood?”

“W, wait, explode!?”

“You are made of metal, tin man. You will be fine as long as the explosion is contained.”

“Contained … how?”

“I just gave you the answer. Metal is a good container for Magus Thunbergii. Probably the only thing you’re good at. Good bye now,” Yari stormed off, the wind following as she quickly walked away and the bell on her hip chimed to her.

Ding!

“Yes, I do feel better. Hopefully they get a replacement soon. They’ll need one with his loose screws.”

What a rough start to a new adventure.
