Story Summary

A small collection of information concerning my own world, specifically for the continent of Mepara. It's where a few of my own cast come from (mainly Dante and Lawrence) and is a bit wonky for the time being but a few nice folks have shown some interest in learning more so- here it is!

There will be minor talk of religious themes, cultural, social, and talk of demon biology in later chapters so if that's not if interest feel free to skip it.

Chapter 3: New Demons - Volettlings

Creation

Classified as a 'Manufactured' species, Volettlings are rather flexible population-wise. During ebbs and flows of numbers of lesser demons, a greator demon may choose to interveine or leave it to their fate. Given the oddness and sculpted nature as well, this lends to even more flexiblity at their own hands.

The first way To make a demon is by being created by a Greater demon, just as they were in their creation myth. They are to be sculpted entirely from the material of their kind, often from a ritual during a holiday or event. From the beginning the Greater demons would create a handful of new Volettlings every year to combat and expand the gene pool as well as control the population size during years there were illnesses spreading or natural disasters. This form of birth is seen as a holy origin, or blessed creation. The demons are treated more carefully when they are raised. But once they get some form of independence they are treated no different from a natural demon.

The second way is the natural way. Two volettlings can create a child just as most other living things can, through intimate means. Through this way Volletlings that are neither one material or the other, split breeds are made. They can take physical traits 100% from one parent and look almost indistinguishable from a full kind, or look like a mix or traits (ex, an ash and soot demon with leaf litter horns). There is no stigma around being born from multiple materials, in fact, they even have their own material names :

Third is an assisted form of reproduction. In this way a volettling takes the responsibility for a child only partly created. They often give up sacrifice of sorts, most often a body part as a way to solidify their parenthood. Parents that are in a same sex relationship or have multiple partners can have this option. Children with multiple parents are common and when created in this way, are biologically split with all of the parents. Traits are randomized between the parents.

If the one seeking aid for a child was born female and consents, they may carry the child. The child by all accounts is theirs, in both DNA, and socially. Their genetic makeup is around 50-75% matching the mother, while the rest is β€œfiller”; just remnants of their element. A sacrifice will be needed to do this. A born male or born female who does'nt wish to carry the child may be given a similar option, though its instetanious, with their child being created from their offering and made during a cerimonial ritual.

With all this flexibility, The Vollettlings are by far the majority in numbers compared to other demon types and classifications.
