Chapter 1: The Katanas

#63 What is your character's favorite item they like to carry with them? Why? Draw or write about your character with their item.

Daichi walked through the city of Mechopolis, waving and nodding to everyone. He had been in this world for a little over two years now, and was familiar with many of the citizens of the big city, although he knew all of them were familiar with him. He was famous after all. Daichi smiled to himself as he entered his apartment. Two years ago, the idea of sharing a building with someone else was an absolutely ludicrous idea. Now though, he did have to admit the idea does save space. Damn, this modern era was really rubbing off on him.

He walked up the stairs to his room, and scanned his fingerprints to open the door. Inside lay his workshop, looking just about as messy as he had left it.

His two prized katanas lay on the table.

The Masurao and The Shanabo.

The Masurao was heavier than the Shanabo, with a white and crimson hilt. Daichi used it to destroy the armor of his opponents. In order to improve The Masurao with technology, Daichi had replaced the blade: it was now made of a lightweight but powerful (and maybe even magical) metal called Aster that he had collected from his journeys across the worlds. He could now use the Masurao to cut cleanly through stone.

The Shanabo was much lighter than The Masurawo. It was a katana with a green, silver, and gold wrapped hilt. Daichi used Mechopolis’ technology to make Shanabo weigh basically 0 pounds. He’s learned to use Shanabo with enough speed and accuracy to slice bullets in half without breaking a sweat.

He took the two katanas and sheathed them, before exiting the building and heading towards the Cylosseum.

You see, Daichi worked as a battler.

In the city of Mechopolis, the most celebrated sport is the uncreatively named, Battles. A Battle is exactly what it sounds like: two people battle using any and all techniques, until one of them forfeits or passes out. There’s only one rule: no killing.

Daichi walked to the Cylosseum. Battling as a job worked well for him. It was an easy way to gain money and increase his combat capabilities, but more importantly, it was a way for him to discover stronger opponents without having to travel to other worlds.

His record so far was 106-1: 106 wins, 1 loss.

The one time he lost though…

Daichi would never forget that day. He smiled. No, he didn’t hold a grudge: after all, his opponent that day WAS stronger than him. Daichi respected strength

The man’s name was Long.

But back to the issue at hand.

Daichi had a battle coming up. But this wasn’t a normal battle where he would have to fight another person.

This was a new battle format, called a mob battle.

Daichi just grinned. He really didn’t care what was coming at him.

He just needed to get stronger.
