Behavior around people: When first making contact, he is very kind and helpful. Always wearing a smile on his face, after all he sees everyone as a potential customer and the customer always comes first! Once it becomes clear that nothing will be bought from him, his demeanor might shift drastically, depending on if he likes the person he is talking to or not.

Background story:

Rathyn once led a rather normal life in the kingdom of Havendust. His enthusiasm for herbalism has always been encouraged by both his parents. Through this branch of activities, he has felt his interests for alchemy growing. 

Eventually he began to prioritize this in his life. He is a man with a mission that is eager to help others, to heal their ailments in a way that herbs would never manage. An intense study brought him the knowledge to begin his early experiments. At first, these would range for ailments such as a simple stomach ache, exhaustion and of similar, minor nature. Once he has grown more confident in his practices, the alchemist resumes with more potent mixtures.

His studies led him deeper into the many theories for stronger potions, such as the heightening of the senses. It would be perfect for a warrior to protect his loved ones. As enthusiastic and courageous as Rathyn was, he made his very first attempt. Once the potion was finished, he was the first one to try it with a great success. Fueled with the thrill of his success, the man grew confident enough to create many batches of the same mixture.

During this creation, an accident happened in which too much of the magical powder ingredient was poured into the mixture that caused a magical explosion near his person. This incident cost him half of his face, including his eye, his right arm and a part of his torso paired with magical burn marks. To his luck, his parents caught him just in time to help with his recovery, unable to afford a powerful priest to reconstruct his body. They were worried sick over their son and demanded an end to his experiments. An end that never came, for the young man was stubborn.

Now disfigured and devastated, Rathyn sought for the means to make his body whole again. A path that led him to forbidden alchemy and transmutation, including the use of body parts. A first, he began to work with animals, both deceased and alive but once his parents found out, he got banished from his home. Forced to move somewhere else within the city, where he had to remain undercover.

From there on Rathyn made great progress. He is able to dissolve body parts into their basic structure, and then realign them into a desired shape. 

Rathyn discovered the necessary to reconstruct his missing eye, arm and torso. This, by the use of parts and life force from other people. An additional difficulty related to this procedure being that he would have to find those replacements around every three months. 

This led him down to the path of killing. Never through immediate physical violence, instead through his many potions with toxins mixed into them. To the public eye, these people died of unknown causes. They seemed like they were sapped of their life force. Over the course of time, they would find corpses with those specific body parts missing. These tendencies resulted Rathyn the name "Eater of Half". He wears this title with pride. 

The man feels no remorse for what he has done. After all, he had to pay such a high price, himself. Simply because he wanted to help people, and fate thanked him by taking away half of his body in return. An equal exchange?
