How fascinating....  Thank you for the well-worded explanation, EBS!

The other thing, perhaps, to point out, is that we are on a website - people post here from many different countries.  U.S. laws do not necessarily apply to everyone.  One crude example:  I, being Canadian, am strictly forbidden to photograph, draw, or depict in ANY way a child - adult romantic relationship.  While in the states you are forbidden to take photos of 'kiddie porn', you are by no means outlawed from drawing it, as long as you don't have photo reference.

Therefore, shota is illegal to me.  Not so for many.  Susie has decided, however, that shota shall not be allowed on this site, and therefore has laid down the law stating that in her domain, where she and her staff make up the 'government', it is 'against the law' to post shota.

If you wish, you can think of our Paper Demon as its own little country.  It is a very very free country, where we can do almost anything we want to, as long as we follow the very basic set of rules laid out for us.  And, like in any other government, even the moderators can't abuse their priviledges.

Wow, I never knew that it was illegal in Canada to draw shota. Even more reason to disallow it here.

Well, our server still resides in the US so I am still bound by US laws. If someone signs up here at PaperDemon.com who is under the age of 13 I am breaking a US law because I've collected personal information from someone who is under 13 years of age without parental permission. Even if that child is NOT in the US, I believe this law still applies.  That's why I have that rule about age. If our server was physically located in another country, we'd be bound by the laws of that country. I don't know what would happen if the server resides in one country and the webmaster resides in another.

But yeah, you could think of PD as its own government. But instead of going to jail for not following the rules, you just get thrown off the site. And there's no trial by jury or anything lol.

If it were to be compared to a government, it would probably be called a dictatorship because i'm the only one with real power. But I'm trying to be a good dictator. lol.

This topic has been blown way out of proportion. I feel that the owner (BougusRed) of  this site makes the rules, so we should all live by them. I also feel that being the owner (BougusRed) should have been more considerate of the artist's works in progress being erased immediately. She should have given an advanced warning to all of  them before she did so. This I feel was somewhat rude and selfish of her. She seems to have let her power of owning this site go to her head, instead of her love and passion for art and artists.

But isn't your post blowing this topic even more out of proportion? You said yourself that BogusRed has the right to make the rules for this site, and that we should all abide by them. But then you are contradicting yourself by complaining about her choice to immediately delete art that breaks this new rule.

Personally, I feel that this whole thing isn't a huge sacrifice. This is a site for art, and BogusRed wants all art to be presented as neatly as possible. Being the owner of this site, she has the right to make this rule. If everyone reads the few rules to this site, and abides by them, then they have no need to have their work deleted. It's as simple as that.

Minimaid is right about the shota business, as I myself, too, am a Canadian. Child pornography has become a growing problem here in Canada, and I must admit, it's a very touchy issue. I am totally against child porn (I think it's totally disgusting anyway). This is a good subject you brought up, Minimaid. I would never draw a child/adult relationship EVER!!!

I'm glad that you, BR, brought up the issue about the work-in-progess screenshots. I found those annoying, and not to mention the colour. Ugh!!! I usually don't like to take sides, but I have to agree with BR. It looks god awful. I really like you explanation of  "Freedom of Speech", EBS. I think it was well put. It's such a misnomer to many. In my opinion, if you want to use the screenshots, use it for a tutorial if you want to teach somebody how you did your artwork. That I can see. But other than that, it's not really necessary. I hope I didn't offend anyone. If I did, I'm really sorry, I"m just trying to speak my mind and give my opinion about this issue.

Anyways, this is a very open site, and BR has every right to set the rules. Quite frankly, I think she's being fair. She's done a lot for us, and I will give her credit for that. You go, girl!!!

Hey, as long as everyone knows the standard before time, then I have no problem with Susie deleting art that doesn't comply. Personally, I don't see why there is such a big problem

*save your pictures as pictures- not screen shots*

Sorry- how is this hard? Deviantart deletes outright ANYTHING that is in the wrong cataogory, to 'explicit' or what. Most of the time they have moronic reasons or this. Susie on the other hand is black and white with this. No screenshots. It's obvoius what a screenshot is, right?

It's not as if you can't use it for tutorials.

I know I'm not a moderator, but I'm going to ask with EXTREME passion that if anyone has ANY problems with this whatso ever- PM Bogus red PERSONALLY. She has made the rule, and its basic to follow. All of the problems I'm seeing here are people complaining cause they can. It is stupid. If you want to post a picture with photoshop in the background, then don't post it here. Post it at Deviantart, or Elfwood or where ever that accepts it. Not here.

    End of story.

If you have a problem with me adding this to the forum, then please PM me personally after you think over why you have a problem a few times. Ask yourself  "Am I asking this cause I want to post this kind of art, or am I posting this cause I think this is morally wrong?" If you're commenting cause its morally wrong, and you personally don't care, then don't PM me or Bogus red regarding this- The people that want it can comment for themselves. I can't see any reason for this forum to be continuing as long as it has.
