We have been looking for a better alternative to the AIM chatroom for a while. Something with more features and that can be better moderated.

So, I have set us up an IRC channel on irc.freenode.net.

To access the chatroom, you will need an IRC client like:

mIRC: http://www.mirc.com
Trillian: http://www.trillian.cc (By the way, if you are not already using trillian as your AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, and/or IRC client, you should really give it a try.)

If you have mIRC installed, you can get to the correct server by clicking on the following link irc://irc.freenode.net. mIRC should be launched and you will be connected to the correct server.

This takes a bit more effort than the AIM chatroom, but it will be much better. We can put welcome announcements, everyone should be able to use their paperdemon usernames, and there are just a lot more good things.

We recommend that anyone who is more knowledgeable about IRC help members who are having trouble by replying to this thread or suggesting other IRC client alternatives.

Edit: The easiest way to get to the IRC channel is to install mIRC and click on the above link to freenode. I have updated the link to automatically join the paperdemon channel after connecting.

Edit: Nickserv and Registraton
Aparently, some of you are getting nickserv registration errors. You can register your nick in the following way:

1. Choose the nick you want with the /nick command (/nick yournickname)

2. Type the following command to register your current nick: /msg nickserv register password. Example: (/msg nickserv register mypassword)

3. Once your nick is registered, you will need to use the following command in the future to identify yourself to the IRC server: /msg nickserv identify password. For Example (/msg nickserv identify mypassword)

You can get help with nickserv commands by typing the following:
/msg nickserv help
