A Song for Winter: Transport

Chapter 72: Transport

While William could just have his mages make him a portal anywhere there was just something about riding aboard a starship that was more fun. Harlock may not have been his ship, but since the tiefling captain, Izebel, flew under his flag, she was more than happy to give William a lift wherever he needed to go. Originally the Harlock was a cargo ship that transported heavy freight and slaves between starbases under the flag of The Matriarch. Captain Izebel and her wife/first mate, the drow elf Morrisa, liberated the ship with a mix of ninja subtly and technological superiority. All the cargo was sold or repurposed while any slaves were set free or allowed to join the new crew of the starship.

Morrisa had always been a genius with magitech so she led the efforts to retrofit the cargoship into a proper pirate starship. Automated missile launchers with accompanying rapid-fire laser cannons lined the hull of the spaceship. Four different layers of energy shields on multiple redundant energy batteries protected a hull made of an alloy of the strongest metals from multiple other worlds. Three smaller rail cannons surrounded the much larger main rail cannon that made up the nose of the ship. On the inside of the ship, the plasma engine was massively overhauled to make it faster than most people would expect from a ship that size and incredibly fuel efficient. An armory with all of the latest state-of-the-art magitech weapons and armor with a computer that could make any weapon or armor from an inputted design. Most importantly a massive portal generator was added to the ship so it could jump to any coordinates in space at a moment's notice. Other specialty rooms and weapon systems for the starship were added by Morrisa and her team of engineers as they decided they needed them.

Izebel led the charge of training her new crew in the finer arts of being a space ninja pirate. She had been trained in the ninjitsu arts by the legendary Grandmaster Keizo before he sacrificed himself to save Izebel from The Matriarch. As the reigning ninja grandmaster and self-appointed pirate queen, Izebel trained her crew in stealth, sabotage, explosives, and swordsmanship. It did take long for this new crew of space ninja pirates to become infamous among the star ways for their cruel efficiency when they raided an enemy ship. Morrisa and Izebel did collaborate on a special project for their crew. Samurai mechs with large katanas and ballista launchers that could be controlled from the inside by a pilot or remotely for missions to dangers to risk a pilot.

All these upgrades plus a battalion of fighter pilots made the Harlock a formidable fortress in the stars. William could safely travel from planet to planet or galaxy to galaxy aboard the starship. Izebel may pretend to be annoyed to be flying under William’s flag but in secret, she likes having a “home port” at Drakthorpe. Morrisa on the other hand likes being William’s chief magitech engineer and enjoys the near-endless supply of new materials to work with. A pirate ship wasn’t William’s first choice of transport but now he rather enjoys it.
