Chapter 5: FIVE: 169 words
PROMPT 5: The slightest error, a moment of hesitation or bravery, and the Weretoad's fangs sink deep into you. Seconds later, you feel a transformation taking hold. Draw or write your character's first transformation into a weretoad!
The shifter slid over the marble floor into a halt. He could feel the bite marks on his upper arm pulsate with pain and escaping blood.
It felt like his throat tried to close, and block his airways. Like a horrible allergic reaction - but a lot more violent and visceral. The blood-curdling, infectious magic rummaged through his body like a pack of ravenous sundogs. Caspian could feel and hear his whole body changing in shape, his joints popping and cracking under the stress.
Was this what shifting your shape really was? It didn't look like it was painful. He had seen others of his kind do it. This was different. It had to be. It wasn't over in seconds, nor was it wasn't a painless transformation.
Caspian's next growl towards the hideous creature was more of a gurgle than an audible snarl. He had no interest to look down at his disfigured form. Enraged, he lunged at the monstrosity once more.
He had been a peacock before - big deal.
