Story Summary

Personal Demons is a supernatural horror story taking place in 'somewhere' Japan, in a tiny town where no one ever comes in, and no one ever leaves. Growing tired of being around the same people, walking around the same quiet town, 9th grader, Tsukasa Sassi, is trying to make contact with the outside world. Chapter 13: Beyond Human Boundaries

Untitled

What is a dream?

What is reality?

How do we know the difference between a dream and reality?

What we think of as a dream is simply what we imagine in our slumber, right? I think…I think that dreams are more than that. They've got to have some deep meaning to them that man can't yet understand, but what?

What about reality? How do we know what is reality and what is dream? We define reality as what happens when we are `awake'…but what if it's the other way around? Kids will `wake up' in the middle of the night, crying because they had a `dream'…but dreams can seem so `real'…how do we know which one is which?

There's got to be a crossover between reality and dream…but where is it? Is it where you are half-asleep and just as you're drifting off, you feel as if you are actually falling? Sometimes it even feels like you really hit the ground…it feels real, doesn't it? So how can we say it's not real? What boundaries are there between reality and dream? Or an even better question; what boundaries are there that man itself creates?

REALITY…

The people around you: you can't tell what they're thinking about, can you? Not unless they tell you. But what if they lie? If they lie about what they're thinking, then you don't know what the difference is between what's real and what is not. How do we know that they even think at all?

We could all have our own worlds where people dress different and act different; and we wouldn't even know the other world existed, right? What if the real people are the people we never see? What if their own subconscious has created a different world, where they live? Doesn't that mean that your mind could have made its own world too?

Science has supposedly proven that man only uses about ten percent of its brain capacity…but what's beyond that? If we can only use ten, than where is the other ninety percent? I think that the other ninety percent is our subconscious; the only place capable of building something as complex as an entire world. I mean, that could be where `dreams' come from, right?

DREAM…

I think that a dream might be a way to enter the subconscious; a place where we think about things we didn't know we thought about, like how we think about breathing, right? Our world may just be an image generated by the subconscious: but if that's true, then where are the dreams from? There could be thousands upon thousands of possibilities. I have a couple of theories.

1. Dreams could be a doorway into the worlds that others' subconscious' have created, and that may explain why most dreams seem so incredibly strange to us.

2. Dreams could be other ideas that our subconsciouses have for other worlds, but because it seems we can only exist in one world, the ideas are locked away in what we call `dreams'.

Maybe someday I can find out what the real difference is between dream and reality…
