Chapter 11: Dreams

I fell into a deep, comfortable sleep. The next moment I knew, a dream had begun in my sleeping mind. But it wasn't much of a dream. In fact, it was really a memory. An old one. One from my childish days when I was playing with Alex in the sandbox at the park. My sister was off flirting with two guys, Lelouch was swinging, and Earl was sitting in the grass playing with a butterfly. Alex spoke up as we were almost finished building a sand castle with the dry sand.

"Y'know something Allen?"

"Hmm? What?" I spoke in an innocent tone. Somewhat curious as to what he was going to say as I kept gently patting sand onto the dome we called a castle.

"You will never beat me at anything no matter what you do," he spoke this smugly. We were in elementary school at the time so naturally I got a bit upset.

"What do you mean I'll never beat you?!" He giggled at my reaction to his words.

"I've got the best grades in class, I'm great at sports, all the girls swoon over me, and I can color in the lines."

"Th-that doesn't matter! Besides once we get into high school I'll be ten times smarter than anyone in our class. Including you." My anger was boiling as he kept speaking.

"Y'sure?"

"Of course I'm sure!"

"Reaaally?"

"Yes!"

"Well then how about I make you a promise?"
"Huh?"

"If you ever do get ahead of me, I'll tell you my greatest secret. But not until you beat me," I thought about this for a bit. "Or, if you find out my greatest secret I'll step down from my position as first. How's that?"

"Haha, no sweat. I'll know that secret by the time we get into middle school."

"Psh, fat chance," I punched him in the face, knocking down the sand castle and stormed off. Pulling my sister with me and away from the guys who are soon to become my brothers-in-law.

After that day I began to ask Alex so many questions about him so that I may figure out that special secret. He always anwered my questions truthfully and never lied but I still could never figure out what he was hiding from me. Finally, in my second year of middle school, I decided that I should stop asking him all these questions because I already knew pretty much all anyone will ever know of him. So I began to study, train, and draw to my fullest so that I could beat him in every single class at school. I even studied a few different languages too. But it still wasn't enough.

Suddenly, I had awaken from this dream/memory and realised that I was no longer in the cafe behind the counter. But I had been carried to my own room and now layed gently in my own bed.
