Ballpoint Harpy

Harpeys are one of the lesser drawn figures of fantasy, and one of the more common races in the RP setting that I run. However, they're hardly the ugly, cruel, and...only female creatures we see in greek myths. For one- you need males to reproduce. Period. Secondly, everyone's got their own way of building off of myths and legends. I rather like the idea of a less brutal race of bird people.

So here's another ballpoint doodle, my first attempt doing a humanoid with a ballpoint pen, trying out some more things with my art. It's all ballpoint accept the coloring and 'cloudy' effect I threw in quickly in photoshop.

...errmm...and yes he's nudie and no I won't draw manbits on them. Why? A: I don't like drawing them. B: ...I've never seen birdy man bits so why should harpeys have visable ones? XD End of convo.

lol this very nice...and ur right myths are myths, there is very litte truth to them so no one can say what something in a myth looks like or not. So very nice and i like the color of the paper it makes the piece look very mythy or whatever lol

  :3 Thanks! The paper color is actually just a very light color overlaying the actual lineart. I like to add some color to things like that just so it's a bit easier on the eyes. Black on white tends to be more unattractive.

  yup true true....i know that i'm gonna be learning soon how to make interesting colored and texture paper in my drawing class like with tea and stuff lol it's gonna be fun

Ballpoint pen? I don't have the patience to use a pen straight on

I don't see any reason to roast you, except that his waist is a bit on the skinny side, but it's probably just the angle and he's part birdie. But that's the only thing I see. And his left eh...foot...seems to be a bit off. It just looks odd to me.

Anyways, can't wait to see more

  I make the harpies pretty skinny. Birds have a very high metabolism, so while they eat lots they also burn it off quickly. X3

  Wow. This is freakishly creepy: I've been playing with an idea for harpies for my world, and what I have so far is as close to identical to this I could ever imagine. The only differences being fingers in the wings. Very, very good job, and a great spurt of inspiration. ^__^

  Well thank you! ^__^ It's really not an uncommon depiction of the harpy these days to be honest. XD I've seen similar ones popping up here and there.
