Chapter 2: The Jacket

The next couple of days, Vincent wasn't in school. I had his Jacket with me everyday. Then, the third day, in the same class, he showed up, in the middle of it. "Welcome back, Mr. Kaine." The teacher said. Vincent, made his way back to the window still, and made himself comfortable. I stared at him, as he looked out the window, as if he was ignoring me. I clenched the Jacket in my hands some. Why is he ignoring me? I looked at the Jacket I had in my lap, perfectly folded. All through school, Vincent was in every class I was. He sat at the window still that was next to me, even sat in the floor, when I wasn't sitting next to a window. Every time I stole a glance he was looking out the window or doing his work on his knee.

In lunch, he sat behind me at the table next to mine on the other side facing my back. I had goose bumps all though lunch, and I lost my nerve to give his jacket back. "Why do you still have his jacket, Karin?" Jacob asked me as he walked me home, after work. "I don't know." I replied sighing. I said goodbye to Jacob as I walked to my apartment.

I fumbled for my keys in my pocket, but I drop them in the floor. I sighed heavily as I reached for them, but a hand picked them up. "Thank you." I said taking it from the unknown hand, without looking at the owner of the large hand. "You're welcome." a deep voice replied that sounded Familiar. Vincent? I looked but no one was there. I stood there bewildered. That sounded exactly like Vincent. Did he disappear? Why? I still had his Jacket with me. I got ready for bed. Vincent's voice play over and over in my head, while I tried to sleep. All I could do was picture his face, his actions, today at school. I barely got any sleep that night.

I yawned as I sit in my desk before first period began, the next day. "You didn't sleep, last night, Karin?" Jacob asks as he sits in his desk behind me. "No, not really." I said as I stretched my arms out, then I turned to him. Jacob smiles, "I see you don't have his jacket today?". "No. I guess I forgot it at home." I sighed. "Well, he didn't even ask for it back. Must not be important to him or something." he said, shrugging. I turned to my desk. "Guess not." I said, looking at my desk.

I felt as though something was watching me. I looked at the window and saw Vincent looking at me, like he did the first day, perched on the window still like a falcon, and the window was opened. His hair was flowing in the wind as it blew in. He's iced eyes shining. I felt chills. "Hey, When did you come in?" Jacob asked. Vincent, ignored him, "Where's the jacket?" I swallowed hard. "A-At home. Sorry." I said nervously. Vincent jumps down onto the floor, then leans over me, staring at me. I was getting more nervous than before. Why was he looking at me like that? My heart was racing. Vincent starts smiling, "Then I will acompany you after work then.". "Huh?" I said. How did he knew I was working? "No, Dude. I don't think so!" Jacob said as he grabs Vincent by the shirt straighten him up. Vincent was taller than Jacob. Jacob was angry. He was starting to sweat.

Vincent chuckles grabbing Jacob's hand then pulling it back. "Ah!" Jacob gasped in slight pain. "Stop, you're hurting him!" I said loudly. Vincent lets him go. Jacob, sat down in his seat, nursing his hand. "Sorry. It was just a reflex." Vincent said looking at me. "I will wait for you after your shift." I was about to reply when the teacher came in, and started the class. All though class, Vincent watched me. I felt weird, but it wasn't a bad feeling.

In the cafeteria, Vincent sat in front of me, watching me. I couldn't eat. Not in front of him. I was embarrassed. Everyone in the cafeteria, whispered, and some giggled. Jill made her way to Jacob, and sat down next to him, whispering something to him. He was sitting beside me, death glaring at Vincent. I couldn't hear what she was whispering. I was looking down at my tray trying to not look at Vincent.

"Well, it looks like Karin has another admirer." Jill said loudly, so everyone could hear. "It seems Karin gets all the attention, from the good-looking guys around here." She continued. "Oh, just shut up." Jacob said, already annoyed. I looked at Jacob. Jacob was still glaring at Vincent. Jill, giggled, then pinched his cheek. "Oh, is Mr. jealously angry? Huh?" Jill teased. Jacob, swats her hand away. I looked at Vincent. Vincent was still looking at me. His long black hair caressed the side of his face, cause he was resting his head in his hand. I blushed, then looked down again. Such a handsome man, I thought as I play with my fingers.

"Oh, is little Karin pooh, shy?" Jill teased again. "Shut up, Jill!?" Jacob yelled, angrily. I slightly jumped at his tone. Jacob noticed "I'm sorry, Karin. I didn't mean to startle you." Jacob said as he puts his arm around my shoulders. I looked at him giggling "That's okay.". Jacob blushes like his face was on fire. He quickly removes his arm, "I'll see you in class!" Then left. With Jill glaring at me. Lunch went by awkwardly, for me, Jill death glaring me, and Vincent looking at me. I didn't eat at all.

During work, I looked out the window, every time I pass it. I work in a little coffee shop. They pay good, enough. Every time I looked out the window I see no one, except people just out to shop, or some customers. Then as I walk out, work ended, Vincent was leaning against a light pole, in front of the shop! My heart jumped! "Vincent?!" I said. "Hello, Karin." Vincent said walking toward me. "Ready?" Stopping in front of me. His hair was still down, and his eyes were shining in the moon light. I nodded, like I was in a trance. As we walked, I notice I didn't have to tell him where to go, he already knew the route.

I, tried to make conversion, "Um, Vincent?" "Yes." Vincent replied as we got closing to the apartment. "I, um, Why, um...." I hesitated. "Why, What?" Vincent said stopping at my door. "Um, Why was you staring at me, when you came here, and earlier?" I finally asked. Vincent turned to me, looking at me, "I guess I liked you.". I, blushed, my heart beating a mile a minute, "Oh, Really?". Vincent smiles, chuckling. I remembered, "I'll go get your jacket!" . As I opened my door, I saw red eyes glowing at me, in the dark, growling. I, started to scream, but when I turned on the light, nothing was there!

The window had been broken. "V-Vincent?!" I said, scared. Vincent, walked in, "You're not safe, here." He said, inspecting the window. I walked over to where he was, and saw glass on the floor. "What was that? Why was it here?" I asked. Vincent, stared out the window, "That was a demon.". "A demon? There's no such thing!" I said. "Even if you don't believe, you saw it for yourself. They do exist." Vincent said turning to me. "Why was it here?" "It was looking for you." Vincent replied. "Why me? Why?" I asked tears wielding up. I was scared. That thing. That demon, was after me. Why?

Vincent, grabbed the jacket from the chair I had it on. "It has been a year now, right? Since the accident?" . I nodded "How do you know?". Vincent puts on the jacket, "You don't remember, and you didn't see them.". "Them?" I asked, with tear rolling down my face. "Demons." Vincent replied, looking out the window. "You don't know, do you? About your Father." "Dad?" "Your father left Hell, for your mom. For a Mortal. " Vincent said looking back at me, seriously. "What?! That doesn't make any sense!!" I yelled tears flowing down my face. "Your father was the King of Hell. He was Satan. He left everything in hell, and become a mere mortal."

I wide eyed, I couldn't believe this. "No! Your making that up! No way dad was evil, or anything like that! He was good!" I said beating my fists on his chest, sobbing heavily. Vincent, grabs my wrists stopping me, "Listen!" he yelled. "He betrayed Hell, for your mother! For love!" I looked at Vincent. Vincent then kisses my lips, passionately "Your father, left for love. For your mother and you. He left everything, without knowing the consequences " Vincent pulls me into a hug, and held me in his arms, as I passed out.
