Chapter 12: The Past

 Lin was 6 years old when he met Rafe who was 12. He stared up at the blond vampire, who was as beautiful as a archangel. Rafe glared at little Lin. “What are you looking at, goober fangs!”. Lin gaped. Rafe growled annoyed, and bared his fangs, and hissed. Lin just stared unaffected. Of course he would, Rafe thought, he’s a full blood! Rafe turns and walked off. The night was just starting, and he wanted to watch the moon from his favorite branch. He climb, the old tree, to the second branch and leaned back, watching the moon raise. All was heard was crickets chirping and a kid climbing.  

“What the?” Rafe said, as Lin climbed up onto the branch. “Why are you here? Go away!”. “Nu-uh!” Lin finally spoke. “I’ll knock you on your ass if you don’t get away from me!” Rafe hissed. Lin smiled, and laughed, “I’ll tell my father you cursed, and he’ll tell your father and you’ll be in big trouble!” Lin sticks out his tongue. Rafe growls, wanting to strangle this kid. “Fine! Do want you want!” Rafe leaned back and watched the moon, in peace, or trying.

"What are you watching?” Lin asked. “The Moon, goober fangs.” Rafe said. Lin growled, hating the nickname Rafe gave him. Rafe grinned at that. “Why?” Lin asked. “Cause I just want to, that’s why.” Rafe replied. “Oh.” Lin said, as he watched the moon. “Can we be friends?” Lin asked after two minutes of silence. “No!” Rafe quickly replied. “Why not?” Lin asked, but all he got was a shove and he fell on his ass on the ground. Rafe laughed, as Lin glared up at him.

 One year went by and Lin tried his best to befriend the blonde vampire, but was denied every time. All he knew was he was the one being bullied by the vampire. Rafe has pushed him, poured water on him, and told him it was really holy water, and embarrassed him by showing the other kids his kills, which were rats, and mice, while they were hunting bigger prey, rabbits, and deer’s even. When Lin’s father died, Rafe disappeared from the clan, and Lin never saw him again.

Then when Lin was 18 years old, an elder vampire told him. “As the next leader of this clan, Lin. You will marry the daughter from your mother’s clan, her name is Arimi. She is also your cousin from you mother’s side. You’re mother has approve this match.”. Lin fumed, “No! I don’t want to marry!”. “But you must! You’re father was arranged marriage to your mother , and-” “And he never was happy was he?” Lin stood, and glared down at the elder vamp, “Father was killed by a hunter over a grave, wasn’t he? Why was I never told this? Who was in the grave?” “Who told you that?” “I overheard your gossipers. Whose grave was it?”. “Some female human. It doesn’t matter.” “Yes it does! He was killed by a hunter, cause they couldn’t be together, right? He didn’t care that he would die if he visited her grave and he must have knew hunter’s would be there, and risk seeing the one he loved. I will not turn out like that! I want to find my own lover, and be with her!” “Your mother may not- “ “My mother has no say in my life anymore! I will not marry this girl from the other clan! I refuse it!” Lin yelled, and turned to leave.

His mother stood in his way. Her long black hair flowed over her shoulders, and blue eyes. Her arms were crossed over her breast. She looked so young, but was older than she looked. “Mother!” Lin said. “Lin.’ She lifted a black brow, “So, you refuse the marriage?”. Lin stood his ground, “Yes, Mother.”. “I knew you would.” She sighed, “You’re so like you father in some ways, but he didn’t stand up like you did, and now he’s gone.” She said this without love or compassion, just blankness.

“You never loved him did you?” Lin asked, feeling hurt. His mother, sadden finally, and said, “No. We never loved each other. But, we did like each other Lin. We both loved you, dearly, and we pretend to be in love for you. Your father told me when we were married that he loved someone else. I never knew her, and I never asked him. They never saw each other again. He was told she died, and it took him years later to go confirmed it, and he was killed at her grave. Lin, do you remember Rafe?”. “Rafe?” Lin thought back to the blond vampire who bullied him, “Yes. What about him?”. His mother, slightly smiled, and said, “If you meet him again, tell him, I’m sorry.”. “Why?” Lin asked as his mother turned and left, “Mother!?”  

After that Lin left the clan behind and with Mori his best friend went out into the world. They were walking through the woods, detouring a village, and came upon wolves fighting each other. Four big wolves were clawing and slashing at another one, who was protecting a female human who laid below his paws. The Wolf, who was protecting the woman, was badly wounded, and wouldn’t last long.

“My, look, Lin, doggies!” Mori said, loudly. The Doggies stopped their attack and glared back at the two lone Vampires. “Doggies, Mori? You know they hate to be called that. Mutts are a more suitable word.” That pissed them off and all four turned and ran toward the two. Lin and Mori defended the mutts, and they turned high tailed, leaving the other wolf behind. “Who do we have here?” Mori asked the wolf. The wolf, slightly growled, but whined as his injuries hurt. “Don’t worry, we won’t hurt the female.” Lin said as he laid his hand on top of the wolf’s head, “We will help you and the female.”. The wolf, relaxed, and turned into a nude man. “So he’s a male.” Mori said, disappointed. Lin, laughed at his playboy friend, then turned each attention to the werewolf, who was passed out. “It seems we have another traveler, Mori.” That was when Ken joined the group and became a friend, going against his own clan.

Lin picked up the woman, as Mori reluctantly picked up the male werewolf, and lug him over his shoulder like he was a sack of potatoes. “I know he isn’t a female but you can at least treat him a little kinder, Mori.” “Wanna trade?” Mori smirked. “No. She’s safer with me than you.” The male wolf groaned, as blood rushed to his head. “Oh he’s still alive.” Mori chuckles as they walked to a abandon hut that was covered by vines.

“I’m afraid she won’t make it if she doesn’t get treatment, soon. “ Lin said, covering the female’s body up with a blanket that was left behind in the hut. “What happened to her?” Mori asked. But, the wolf answered, “She was attacked by one of those wolves. He raped her and was going to kill her, but I-” He groaned as Mori touched his wound on his stomach, “Do you have to poke me?”. “Mori.” Lin growled, as Mori grinned slyly. “Sorry. I can’t help it, he’s still bleeding.” Mori, licked his finger that the wolf’s blood was on. He flinch and made a sore face, “Yuck, Werewolves blood tastes awful!”. “Deserves you right, Mori. We’ve been told that, remember?” Lin said, knocking him out of the way, and cleaned the werewolf’s wounds. “What are you called, wolf?” Lin asked. “Ken.” Ken said, slightly groaning.

“Ken? Did you know those wolves?”
“Y-Yes. They were my brothers, and uncle.”
“Who raped the woman?”
“My uncle.”
“Bastard.” Mori growled.
“There are some wolves, I heard, that has killed a woman after they were raped. They stalked the woman, then when she’s alone, pounce her. Usually in human form, to rape her, but wolf form when they make their kill. A few vampires say, that some of the women were virgins.”
“What a waste.” Mori said, “It’s more better when a woman is willing, isn’t it. Lin?”.
Lin ignored his question. Mori stared at him, blinking, then “Don’t tell me you’re-”
“Shut up.” Lin glared, “Stay here while I take the female to the village.” He picked the woman up gently, checking she was still alive, then left. Mori watched after he was long gone. “Interesting.” Mori looked at the sleeping Ken, “It seems our Lin, hasn’t had a woman, yet. Who knew?”
Several hours later, the sun was about to raise, Lin was back in the hut. “Will she make it?”. Lin nods, and sat by Mori, and looked at Ken who was still sleeping. His wounds were healing. “She won’t remember what happen exactly. She will think it was just an attack by a wild animal or something.” “That would be for the best.” Lin nods, and was slipping off to sleep as the sun rises. Mori watched him, soon he as well fell to sleep, falling against Lin, with his head on his shoulder.

Morning came and gone. They still slept. Ken was waking up as the sun was setting. He groaned as he sat up and rubbed his head. Headaches are the worst. He focused his eyes, and saw he was in a hut, and two men were sleeping. He blinked as his mind register them. Both male vampires. Sleeping closely together. “Don’t tell me. Gay vampires?”

That woke Mori up, and he pushed Lin away, causing him to hit the floor. “No gay here, Doggie!” Mori grabbed Ken by the throat and bared his fangs, “I’ll have you know that I love women. Women, mind you. Males do nothing for me. I like females, human females. They’re soft and warm, and-”

“Mori!” Lin growled, waking up rubbing his forehead which hit the floor of the hut from Mori’s push. “Let. Him. Go. Now!” Mori obeyed but gave a hard glare to Ken before he backed off.
“Do you remember?” Lin asked sitting up.
“Yes… Is she..”
“She’ll live. She’ll only think she was attacked by a wild animal. But she will live.”
“A wild animal, indeed.” Ken said disgusted. Remembering his uncle raping her, and about to turn into the wolf to kill her. “I wish I have stopped him before the rape. What if she is pregnant?” Ken asked.
“That won’t happen, I overheard the doctor say to a nurse that she was raped so violently that she will be barren. She’ll never have children.”
Ken closed his eyes, “Damn.” Tears fell. They were silence.

For several years the three was traveling. They finally found an abandoned house on a dead end street that was shared with a one story apartment building on the other side. Lin looked out onto the apartment building as the night descends. He saw a young woman at one of the windows, who was in a robe, after taking a shower. He got closer and watched her comb her damp hair.

A phone rang, she answered, “Hello?’ He closed his eyes as her voice washed over him. “This is Nami.” Nami? He slightly growled at the sound of her name from his lips. Was it Bloodlust or…. He jumped back from the window like it was on fire, as she closed the curtains. His cheeks heated as though he was close to a fire but it was cold outside. Fall year. So he shouldn’t be so… Hot. His fangs throb, and he touched his lips. He wanted that woman. He wanted “Nami.” He said, as his tongue licks his finger like blood was on it. A human woman. He is just like father was, except this time “I will make her mine. No matter what.” He growled. Ken and Mori watched him as he stared at the closed curtains.
“It seems, Lin has found something interesting, Ken.”
“It seems so.” Ken crossed his arms. They watch Lin as he growled, and make some kind of noise they never heard from him before.
“What is he?” Ken glanced at Mori who was smirking.
“He’s found a woman finally, that’s all.” Mori chuckles to himself as he watched the love struck Lin. “We’ll be meeting her soon, I suppose.”.
“Mmm.”
