Chapter 9: vaccinate. it's good for you.

Eliza was utterly, flabbergastingly, gobsmackingly sick. They say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but in her case, she was praying it did. She felt the oncoming symptoms—like warnings looming over her—and simply did not care enough to take the correct measures. People died from illnesses all too commonly, and Eliza was just another one of them. Call it apathy, but she knew it as “the little devils of mother nature have come to stab her with their tiny forks yet again!” The name is a work in progress.

Vector kindly suggested to take a nap, that fevers were not so hard to treat in Avangard. Eliza told him to die and began to furiously cough on him in the highly immoral wish for him to suffer with her.

To Eliza’s amusement, he did get sick. To her disappointment, it was not as bad as hers. According to Vector, the people of Avangard have had fevers for a long while, and hence, have evolved to deal with such. Since Eliza’s “immune system” was not fully equipped for handling the fever, she experienced more… deathly struggles.

“In the world of Avangard—” Vector would say. “—the impossible is merely a wall made of glass. We can see the outcomes, the possibilities, the costs, we just can’t seem to touch it. There is, however, a solution. Bring a hammer and start swinging. That is a fact.” Or at least that’s what he would imply. Add a stutter count, the fear of being bullied, and being actually bullied, and you’ve got a more than accurate conversation between the two.

What is this impossible then? Not the glass wall itself, but to Eliza, she sees a cure. She sees a world advanced so beyond her own, and in her hand is a hammer.
