Chapter 6: Boss Battle - Empty Promises

5. Family Matters. You’ve probably had your own problems with family flaking on you for whatever reason. Draw or write your character in a time where their family went back on their word… or when they went back on their word to a family member! No one’s perfect, after all.

β€žWe’ll always be there for you, dear!β€œ

That’s what they said after Rathyn lost a big part of his body in an accident. Leaving him crippled and undesired by society, ugly and weak.

β€žPlease, always come to us when something weighs down on you heavily, okay?β€œ

The reassuring voice of his mother still rang through his ears, even after so many years have passed. Sighing, Rathyn inhaled another dose of a relaxing substance to ease the pain which occasionally jolted through his body. As good as he might look to the common eye, an illusion covering up what happened to him and making him look like a normal person, he always felt phantom pain. Some days less but other days it was unbearable, like today.

He was irritated, one wrong word and he might explode but thankfully he was alone. His parents broke their promise. Always being there for me, my ass..!

In the beginning it was true, they stood strong by his side and supported him but when Rathyn couldn’t bear to have to stay like this, half of his face, an eye, an arm and bits of his torso missing, and decided to change it, they slowly began to put distance in between them. It took a while, yes, but when Rathyn finally found a way to at least lead a partially normal life, they left him.

β€ž
What you are doing is wrong! You’re breaking universal rules! This is dangerous, you’ll harm others..!β€œ

They cared more about themselves and others than
their ah so beloved son which still hurt. With a growl he inhaled another dose and leaned back into the pile of pillows which he found himself in. His eyes grew heavier by now and he could finally relax a little bit, doing his best to simply forget and free space in his head for what actually mattered… Making progress on his experiments.
