Bro Druid: Windsurfing Board Talisman

Chapter 1: Windsurfing Board Talisman

From the time he was born, Bodhi felt the ocean’s call. The sea otter knew that dry land wasn’t for him. He belonged amongst the salt spray and the waves. Before he could walk, Bodhi could surf. His dad and mom would take him out on their boards so their son could feel the waves and learn to be one with the water. These would be the first steps in Bodhi’s journey to becoming the man he was born to be. A sea druid lifeguard who would risk everything to save anyone.

Sea druid training starts at a young age by teaching its initiates to swim better than most adults. Bodhi could swim like a dolphin, but surfing was the only druidic teaching he was interested in. When the otter’s sky magic began to manifest, he realized that to mix his new abilities best with his desire to surf, he would become a windsurfer. Bodhi had a bit of trouble balancing on the sailboard and channeling magic simultaneously, but never the one to give up, the young druid set out to find a talisman to help focus his magic. Most druids of the Cove of Summer Breeze had shells, necklaces, or familiars as their magic foci, but those weren’t for the windsurfing druid. His talisman would be his surfboard.

In the forest around the beaches of the Cove were the sacred trees used to make the best surfboards. A sea druid couldn’t simply harvest a tree to make a board. The forest would have to grant you one of its children. Bodhi hiked deep into the forest using his sky powers to guide his journey. After a few days, the woods opened to a clearing with a robust and healthy tree in the middle. Suddenly, the sky darkened, and rain fell in sheets, soaking Bodhi instantly. A flash of lightning felled the tree, and suddenly, the storm cleared. Dragging his gifted tree back to the Cove wasn’t easy, but that was part of the challenge.

Working with the best board makers on the planet, Bodhi constructed his surfboard to be as close to perfect as possible. The makers built a collapsible sail onto the top of the board that folded completely inside for easy storage. Bodhi used a magical blue paint that appeared sea blue most of the time but would illuminate with floral patterns for night surfing. With the board completed, the Elder board makers painted “Sky Surfer” on the board in ancient druidic language and told Bodhi to live up to the name. In time, “Life Guard” and “Medic” would also be inscribed on the board.

With his talisman complete, the sea otter druid could now passively control wind through his sail. Controlling the wind around him, Bodhi could always ensure that the breeze was always in his favor. Patrolling the beaches for tourists in trouble, it wasn’t long before the surf druid started earning blue lines to save those who needed it. Quickly, those lines turned into bars that began to decorate his body with pride.
