Chapter 15: What Would I Do?
What would I do
If I could
For you?
I would forge you a sword of Damascus steel,
Of perfect balance, fit to wield
In every war in the land of the damned,
And a great, round, brass-bossed shield
For every time their weapons rammed
Against you and sought to make you reel.
What would I do
If I could
For you?
I’d fashion you wings, better crafted than Icarus’—
Ready for wild, high-rising flight—
Leather and metal and hooked to a harness.
You would look like an angel, silhouetted in the sunlight:
Ready to fly as far as you need,
When the beasts come too close, or life makes you bleed.
Despite the present world,
This I would do.
