Chapter 8: World Without End
World without end, look to the light of dawning day
Rising as a man from nightmare-driven sleep,
Rising with hands upraised in rays of light,
In a world now lacking sorrow, vapor, and night.
World without fear, such courage your heart must hold.
Cradled in safety where none would weep,
Cradled in truth untainted and bright;
I would meet you there, with our tale half-told.
World without wounds we are desiring now.
All scars shall be healed, no cold will creep
On our children’s children’s faces from their fright,
And no one to the darkness more shall bow.
Such a goal we share, both you and I.
My heart hungrily grasps at hopeful words
From theologians, scientists, or bards.
God, man, machine bear witness
That such hopes are not a lie.
