Chapter 26: Varick and Aurolin Play Beacch Volleyball

Varick had his rainbow bikini on with the short skirt bottom and was ready to relax. It was the mahogany Clydesdale’s first day off in a long time. All he wanted to do was lay on the white quartz beaches of Lyra and read his book. Luckily a nice spot in the shade wasn’t hard to find. As Varick settled into his book, a volleyball took the unfortunate paperback out of the horse’s hand.

β€œSorry, sorry, sorry,” a voice called as it got closer. Varick looked up to see a purple-skinned dark elf with silver and teal bobbing behind her as she ran over. Sand stuck to her skin and the green swimsuit coverup the elfen woman wore. β€œSorry, I was practicing while waiting for my friends, and honestly, I’m not exactly sure how to play this game, so I’m just hitting the ball as hard as I can.”

β€œThere’s a bit more to it than that,” Varick smirked as he returned the ball and dusted off his book. The paperback would live for another day.

β€œWait! Do you know how to play? Can you teach,” the elf excitedly asked. β€œMy name is Aurolin, and we need a fourth anyways. You teach me how to play, and then we can be teammates!” The horse still wanted to read his book, but a friendly volleyball game might also be an excellent way to relax. Over the next half hour, Varick tried to teach Aurolin the game’s finer points. Her natural athleticism made the dark elf a quick study.

When Aurloin’s friends arrived, the game was on. Both sides struggled to get an advantage over the other. This volleyball game was starting to feel more like a fight than a friendly competition. Finally, the game point came with Aurolin serving the ball. She easily got it over the net to the opponents. When the ball came back, it flew high into the air. Higher than it should’ve been able to with a normal hit.

β€œMagic is it then,” Varick growled as he planted his hooves in the sand with his hands cupped. Earth magic spells in the anklets in his fur anchored the horse to the ground. β€œAurolin, I’ll boost you!” The elf nodded as she leaped into Varick’s cupped hands. Using all his strength, the blonde Clydesdale threw his teammate into the air. Staying calm, Aurolin flew into the air to meet the ball with an almighty spike to win the final point. Varick caught the elf as she fell and righted her onto the ground. β€œChest bump?”

β€œChest what,” Aurolin looked panicked as she inspected herself for some wound.

β€œRelax. I’ll explain on the way to the refreshment shack,” Varick laughed as he had big plans for an ice cream bar.
