Chapter 35: Varick and Taro Call The Lightning
Varickβs hooves pounded across the powdered quartz snow as he ran. Clydesdaleβs may have been built for endurance, but he was about to set a new speed record. With the crystal wyrm closing in fast, the mahogany horse dove into a quartz drift, hoping to find safety. Unfortunately, he just ended up tumbling downhill, startling a nearby java sparrow.
βOh! Are you okay,β the bird chirped out as Varick lay sprawled in the powdered quartz snow. With his head throbbing a little, the blonde Clydesdale sat up slowly.
βYeah, Iβm fine,β Varick insisted, dusting himself off. βJust ran out of needles, and that beast wonβt leave me alone. Iβm Varick, and is that bow just for show, or do you know how to use it.β
βIβm Taro, and I think Iβm a rather fair shot,β the white sparrow cheerily replied. Carefully, Varick stood as the roar of the crystal wyrm sounded nearby.
βGive me your arrows! Iβll enchant them to drive that thing off,β Varick demanded as he started pulling red thread off one of the spools on his arm-mounted talisman sewing kit.
With the serpentine dragon getting closer, Taro dared not argue and started handing arrows over. Using the red line, the tailor tied tight loops around the hafts of the projectiles to create waving tails. As quickly as Varick enchanted the arrows, the sparrow fired them at the crystal wyrm. Each piercing shot caught fire with blue and purple flames before turning to pure lightning bolts. Soon enough, the crystalline beast became tired of the electrified volley and retreated, looking for easier prey.
βWhat kind of sorcerer are you? That was amazing,β Taro excitedly cheered as the beast fled the shocking arrows.
βIβm a tailor,β Varick answered as he walked into the sunset.
